HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray (The end is near.)

This is a notice of unofficial confirmation to all users on sythe.org. Unfortunately for those of you who have either purchased, or have parents who have purchased the HD-DVD players/disks, the format war is now coming to a close. Some time last week, word had gotten out to the corporate public that Toshiba would be discontinuing it's production of HD-DVD players. Being as they are the only major producer of the players, an immediate course of action was taken by many major film carriers. Netflix.com was the first of many big players to make a move, as they officially released that they will not be carrying the HD-DVD disks. Following in suit, Best Buy, Walmart, and other major electronic distributors in the USA have released identical news. Though Toshiba has not officially released their pulling out of the High Definition Media war, with recent moves by many major producers and distributors of High Definition media, there can be almost no doubt that this is true.

To those of you who own an HD-DVD player, or planned to buy one for your Xbox 360, I am sorry to say that you are out of luck, but as a collector's item, it might be fun to pick up. This effect is largely a direct result of the Playstation 3 having Blu-Ray disk drives pre-installed in the console, versus Microsoft's Xbox 360 having still only a standard DVD drive built-in. Again, unfortunately for those users of an Xbox who had planned to later upgrade to High Definition - Hopefully Microsoft can get you guys back on track with the move in High Definition media, because as of this week, there is no better, nor alternative way to get your media in true High Definition, than with the Blu-Ray disk.

Blu-Ray is definitely going to win, 25 GB is just simply a lot better then 15 GB for the price. The price of Blu-Ray players is also falling a lot. HD-DVD had a good start, but something with less storage capibility can't win in the end. Blu-Ray gets damaged a bit easier though.

=/ Sony stuff is sort of proprietary. Sort of sad to see Blu Ray won out but I knew it was going to win out due to the inclusion of it in the PS3's and the fact that more companies were on board.

Also the thing that makes me saddest that Blu Ray won out is that the copyright protection hasn't been cracked yet...

Well I guess now is the time for it to suck to have an Xbox 360. Oh well. But hey, even some VHS's are still kicking around, so that doesn't mean a complete cutoff.

Blu-ray is bullshit, I think its dumb crap the good about it is that you can't scratch it, the bad is that you pay about 10 dollars more, that adds up, though with HD, you can get any movie and put it in an HD and it makes it slightly better, hopefully HD-DVDs come through, Blu-Ray must fail.

BluRay uses a laser which is more accurate, meaning more data can be packed into a disc, giving it more storage. HD-DVD uses red lasers, which suck.

I think anyone who has seen an HD-DVD player and a Blu-Ray player setup side-by-side called it also. Oh, and every PS3 owner :)

Do we really NEED 25GB disks? The average movie is like 6 gigs..

Games? They won't get much bigger either.

You're kidding, right? People are buying massive rigs to play games like Crysis on Vista. Most of their rig power goes towards the DRM shit that limits DX10 and checks connections every 3 seconds. And Crysis is just the first of a long line of shit-but-very-detailed games soon to be heading your way.
