Drug addiction.

For the past three years I've been abusing drugs pretty much every day. Mainly smoking weed, which although is not physically addictive it is definitely easy to become dependent on, if you knew the science behind how it affects the brain you'd understand why. I've fooled around with MDMA, 6-APB, LSD, ketamine, methoxetamine, mephedrone and MDAI. It's got to a point where I'm usually on something 24/7, I even think about getting high literally all of the time. It's starting to become pretty apparent to my family, and I've been getting caught a lot more recently.

I've decided to quit everything apart from alcohol (I'm a daily drinker, but am cutting down), and am visiting a doctor Wednesday to talk about my dependency.

I know where it started, I'd say from when I was fifteen I've been quite heavily depressed. I used to go through depressed periods when I was younger, which I used to blame on school, but now I've reached a point where everything in my life is pretty much fine, I have no reason to be depressed. That being said, unless I'm on something I feel pretty worthless, I struggle to feel empathy and my social skills pretty much go down the toilet, not to mention my paranoia that's been getting worse lately.

I'm just posting this to see if anyone else has been through something similar, and has some words of advice on getting clean.

It's so hard to stay sober, right now I could go on a website and order 99.8% pure drugs and get them delivered to my house (research chemicals, look them up), I know they're legit because I've tested them myself, and I have contact with the owner of one of the sites. It feels like every corner I turn it gets easier and easier to find drugs, which is not helping me at all.

I don't really know information you guys can give me, but please if you've been through something like this then I'd love to hear your advice.

I'm glad you've actually taken the step to stop. It won't be easy. I've seen quite a few people try and quit with no results. As long as you determine yourself, I'm sure you can do it.

Weed is a gateway drug, it often leads you to use Heroin or Cocaine. My advice is go start a new life, by going to rehab, not hanging out with your friends whom have influenced for the worst. It may not sound easy, but you can do it! It will be a hard journey, but I'll help you if you have any more questions or concerns. <3 Mr Impossible

 

Thanks for the support, man. I've received a lot of support so far from friends and family so I think I can do it . I just need to stop thinking about it, drugs are literally all I can think of.

I'd have to disagree about the gateway drug theory, there have been tests done and there is nothing in cannabis that makes the user want to try something else. It's just the fact that it's illegal and you need to get it from a drug dealer, who may or may not sell other things which can attract your attention. So in some ways it's a gateway drug, but only because of prohibition.

I've taken the step to avoid hanging around with my friends who use drugs, and all of my other friends have been supportive . Right now I think I need something else to fill my time with, or a way to stop the cravings.

I suggest you learn an instrument like guitar or something. Surely with the money you used to buy drugs with, you'd most likely be able to save up $150-$200 for a guitar.
Guitar is easy to learn, and really, really distracts you from the outside world. Especially when you can play well, when you start jamming out, you get trapped into your own world and momentarily forget everything.
And if you ever need help with guitar, lots of people here on Sythe play, as do I, and I'd be willing to help you out with it

 

I actually used to play for a few years, I had a one of a kind guitar teacher who was a great family friend, but he turned into an alcoholic. I'd turn up to his house and he'd be like passed out on the floor half dead, so I really lost my motivation. I regret giving up though and was thinking of picking up an acoustic to learn again. I think I'd be able to get the hang of it really quickly.

Good luck on this man. I hate seeing good people be torn apart by shit like this. I'm real happy you've came out and not only realized you needed to stop, but you're also doing the effort to stop.

 

I've been in your exact situation. I've done every drug out there from every psychedelic to heroin and meth and I love it all, so I know how hard it is to be sober. Opiates and benzos have always been my weakness and I've been through some tough addictions. Honestly the best thing you can do is limit your access to money. Let someone you trust hold onto it and keep your spending to a minimum. You can't buy drugs without money and addictions aren't cheap. My biggest drug problems came from dealing of course. I was pushing large quantities of LSD, ketamine, molly, meth, coke, weed, oxy, bars, etc so I always had access to it and constantly did it. I eventually got caught and everything ended along with my addictions. It's best to face the withdrawals and get them over with. I still hang out with the same people so I still have access to a lot of stuff. I'm still down to do anything if it's there and I'll get a roxy or some bars every once in a while, but the only thing that I do everyday now is just weed. I'll also say that exercise is excellent in helping you feel better and get you through it especially running. If you have any more questions about anything, feel free to ask.

 

my brother was really bad into herion n im not sure what exactaly got him off of it but i think a major factor was just getting him away from all the people he knew n shit, the enablers. mabye if youve got some family in a different city/state that you could live with for a little bit, get a job, maybe go to a college or whatever.

 

It's nice to hear from someone with experience, thanks for the reply. How do you stop thinking about getting high every second? I get so frustrated with myself constantly thinking about smoking up or racking up a line. I get so into my thoughts that I miss conversations, and end up feeling like an idiot. Your situation must be harder, I have never tried opiates and benzos are practically impossible to get in my country, I know a lot about them though because I educate myself as much as possible about drugs (which might have been why I think about them so much). I feel sorry for anyone with a benzo addiction, if you're so deep into benzos (and alcohol) the withdrawals are enough to give you a brain haemorrhage, my friend almost died when he got locked up for a few nights from withdrawals and the police didn't even care.

Cool username by the way, I was thinking of having Dimethyltryptamine as my username but I went with a Gonzo one . One day when I can dabble in psychedelics and feel comfortable enough then I'll definitely be smoking some DMT, that's an experience I'll be heavily preparing for. Got a good friend who's a true psychonaut, he's been a great help with getting clean as well.

I'm glad to hear your brother is no longer abusing heroin, opiates are incredibly addicting, and the withdrawals are practically hell. I have actually started University, I'm in my second term and start lectures tomorrow . My friends here are like my family already, they're really supportive about me quitting and have said I already seem more energetic and talkative, but if I'm being honest it's because I'm trying harder to act like I'm not craving. I find it difficult to talk to them about cravings and such because they don't understand, they'll never be able to, but they're very happy to hear I'm sorting my life out.

Man, I think about getting high all the time and I think that I probably always will. It's definitely gotten better than it was though. Honestly if I could, I would be back where I was at. Weed doesn't really cut it for me and I often have to give myself tolerance breaks, but it's definitely better than nothing. You seem a lot like me. Since I was 14, I have just always been so interested in drugs and researching on them, but I don't think that's what makes me think about it. Truth is, I just enjoy them and find them fascinating. I have always been able to just take some acid or any psychedelic in any environment and just always have a good trip. Educating myself made me also be safe with everything that I did. I've definitely mixed a lot of things, but I've never really pushed the limits and never have overdosed. I can't say the same for a lot of people I've known over the years. I'd say an opiate addiction is definitely the worst there is with benzos being right after. I couldn't even tell you which withdrawals are worse, they're both just as horrible. Though I think oxy is the best drug in the world. My best friend also got locked up for 3 days going through opiate withdrawals puking up blood and shit. They won't do anything for you.

I understand what you're going through in a sense, although I'm not dependent on anything now, I have overcome some pretty heavy mental addictions. I like being high, and I did whatever it took. Now I smoke weed like cigarettes because it helps me not think about other drugs and I know weed is better for you. I was gonna offer to talk on msn or yahoo or whatever you have, but you're banned.

If anything, weed will help you calm down and it will relieve some of the withdraw symptoms you get from harder drugs. I started snorting H before I smoked weed for the first time and after I tried to quit, I found it much easier with a few joints here and there.

 

thats a bold claim, i've smoked cannabis before and would never try any harder drugs. except maybe ecstacy on rare occasion ( partying etc )


Also im not sure how you have the money to be high 24/7

Trust me, when you're craving something bad enough you'll end up getting it. Usually say you pick up at least an ounce, take out an eighth and sell the rest. It obviously varies between substances, and often if the people you sell to will share a line or a joint with you, especially if they're turning up to your place to buy. Then you could underweigh the bags, which every dealer seems to do nowadays.

 

^Exactly. I'm always high on at least weed 24/7. Everyone I hang out with smokes so it's usually around. If I'm broke and need some, then I'll just help my friends push shit. I have cheap hook ups on a lot of different shit so I'm guaranteed to get something out of it. I'll go through maybe a gram of loud($20) every 2-3 days, so it's not too bad. I don't smoke blunts or joints. Such a waste of weed. Only pieces and gravs for me.

 

Yeah, man. I just have a Molino glass pipe and a WeedStar glass on glass bong, both get me so ripped and save a lot of bud. Rolling joints definitely wastes a lot because you have to have a certain amount before you can even roll, but with a pipe you can just put even a small amount in. Basically money isn't the problem.

 

Hell yeah. I have a typhoon bowl and steamroller which I love. I also have a mini steamroller I bought not long ago after I lost my zong steamroller to the cops I have a few other bowls and one hitters too. Unfortunately I broke the inline of my bong when I was tripping so all I got now is a homemade 2 liter grav. Only way I can smoke mids. Rips like a mutha fuckaaa.

 

Don't do RCs man theyre not "clean", actually they're really impure and the quality differs alot beetween rounds. Not long ago an owner of a RC store died testing the stuff he got. But yeah man I feel you, we've been trough similiar stuff =). You can do it! I recommend quitting alcohol for some months at least, it won't make you feel any better that's for sure!

 

What do you mean they aren't clean? Prescription drugs are always clean which is why I prefer oxy/roxy over heroin. At least I know what I'm getting each time. I've never heard of an RC store, but I'm sure he died of an overdose rather than the quality of the drugs. An overdose doesn't seem that unlikely in his situation.
