[Suggestion] Suggestion Chat.

The idea is to basically have a chat, IRC or something where when an Admin or Mod has time will go into the IRC and discuss the ideas with the people in the IRC. For Example, I could type what I typed in the screenie above into the irc, and me, a mod/admin, and/or other members would discuss the suggestions in real time. The convos will be documented will be organized in a way that makes the suggestion presentable. The images will then be posted in a thread in the Suggestion section where further discussion can take place and other admins/mods can support or not. This chat will save a lot of wasted discussion in the suggestion threads. It will help the mods and admins understand the suggestion better because it will be presented like a convorsation versus a boring paragraph of nonesense. If you have made it to the end of this paragraph, you have already been a part of this suggestion. HOW? Well, from this paragraph you learned just as much as the image above. The image above is also more understandable because it is presented as a convorsation.

No. This would involve getting an official IRC and I don't think that will happen. Discussing in real time is easier, I understand however it only takes a little while longer to post it out in the suggestions section. Also since this "chat" thing would be suggestions specific I doubt it would be used considering there aren't a whole load of decent suggestions to be discussed.

 

Sythe already has an IRC. Also, the reason the suggestion section is so inactive is because people get the ideas, then forget about them later. If someone gets an idea it is easier for them to quickly buzz into the Suggestion IRC and discuss it. There are so many members with good ideas out there, they just forget them, never post them, don't think it is that good, etc.

This will help keep suggestions coming.

 

I agree! In general it's easier to discuss in real time because then you can smooth out any confusion in a timely fashion.

It's not an official IRC. I just feel that it wouldn't be used enough. It seems like people still suggest things regardless of how good the suggestion though.

We only get the odd few suggestions everyday, the time taken to develop a system like this as well as getting the Globals + Admins to use it surely wouldn't be worth it? There's always PM'ing the upper staff as well.

 

@mage - exactly. It is much easier to discuss anything in real time conversations. It is also easier to clarify confusion in a chat. Lastly, if you have a chat, the second you have a suggestion or a question about a suggestion you can ask it and get a quick response before you forget rather than telling yourself you will post the question/suggestion later in this section, and you end up forgetting.

@jack off - It doesn't have to be an official IRC. Like theblacktux said, AJAX real time. Also, any suggestion, no matter how crazy is important. Why? Because maybe someone suggests something stupid, though this Suggestion may not get approved, it may spark a conversation that leads to another suggestion or even correction/fixing of the stupid suggestion, making it better. Also, the easier it is to post your suggestion, the less effort it takes for a member to get their opinion heard. Just this statement is why I believe that a suggestion chat will increase suggestions immensely.

@Brendon - One of the reasons why we don't get many suggestions is because of how unorganized and confusing the suggestion section is. It is hard for the original posters to explain their idea completely if people arnt even understanding what the idea is. The chat will make it easy for any person with an idea to share it. Because of the convinence of this chat, no ideas will be forgotten, and all ideas will be discussed thoroughly. Yes, you can PM an admin, but there are still many problems with this. Firstly, this is still not real time. Secondly, admins are busy. Thirdly, suggestions should be presented to the community too. The members of sythe are the ones who will fix holes in suggestions, point out the pros and cons, etc. The average sythe member has an opinion on anything, we just need to make it easier for them to share their opinions so that they will. The suggestion chat will be a group of sythe members (anyone can join the chat) that love to suggest things and/or fix other people's suggestions. The chat can be modde by a special "Suggestions mod" who is devoted to understanding new suggestions, discussing these suggestions, etc.

Reason why suggestion section isn't really thought about is because 99.99% of most suggestions are declined.

As with this one, I don't really see this being useful. If you want to discuss a suggestion post here with good reasons as to why it should be added. No one really talks about suggestions in irc anyways lol ^.-

 

I'm going to admit I never thought I'd see something like this suggested. EVERYTHING on Sythe is thread-based; in fact, Sythe.org is an online forum. Just make a suggestion thread like you make any other kind of thread.

@Bglove - you are saying that just because a lot of suggestions ate declined, that they don't matter. Many have complained about Sythe not being community based enough. The one section that represents us as the sythe community is the suggestion thread. We are allowed to share our opinions on the forum. If we want sythe to become a bigger and better forum, we must put in some effort to get suggestions. As I said, every suggestion, no matter how dumb, has its worth. I don't feel like explaining the same thing over and over again on why I think the suggestions forum is slow. I also don't want to explain for the 3rd time why I think this chat will help. This right here is a perfect example of when the chat would be helpful. You and I are disagreeing with something and are being delayed because it is in a thread and you are misunderstanding my idea. If there was a chat, I could answer any questions you had right then and there to prevent misunderstanding. As well as quickly answering questions, any person who has a suggestion to make this suggestion better, they will be able to directly tell all who are interested and at the same time they will be able to help with any who don't get the suggestion for a suggestion.

@kerokero - Thanks?? Is it a good thing that you never thought you would see something like this suggested? Also, by shoutbox it refers to a chat on the homepage of the forum that can be used for talk about anything. The reason shoutbox suggestions arnt allowed is because we already have an IRC, not because there is something wrong with them... This would be nowhere close to a shoutbox, it would be a live feed,chat type thing that will allow users to suggest their ideas easier, allow users to understand ideas better, allow users to get quick responses, allow users a way to post ideas that they might forget, help users that only have the very beginning of an idea (For example, I may say "We should have a suggestion chat" in the chat and even though I dont have details, it will spark a discussions about it and will build a small idea into a large one, rather than posting that one sentence in this forum and getting my thread closed because it isn't a "full suggestion" and stuff like that)

I just thought of a nother reason this chat would be useful... I decided to go back a few pages and see some of the suggestions that have been ignored or that have died. I noticed that a handful of VERY good ideas as well as a lot of highly discussed ideas are now pages behind the current ones. This chat would make sure that the suggestions get denied/approved as quickly as possible to avoid any "dead suggesion threads". The chat will also prevent the same ideas getting suggested mulitple times. I looked at some of the suggestions in the past week and compared them to dead suggestions from almost a month ago. I noticed that some of the suggestions were very much alike, and all that is happening is it is just getting reposted, redebated, then the suggestion redies. "Dead" or "Forgotten" Suggestions are the worst thing you can have. They make Sythe look like we don't value our users suggestions. They also can scare away the original poster from posting any other ideas. For Example, Member A could post and idea that gets largely discussed for a whole week after he posts it. Eventually the thread ends up on page 3 and was never approved/denied/delayed for vb4/etc. Member A now has a new suggestion, but does not want to post it thinking that his last one was worthless because it is now dead. He now has the fear of posting a bad suggestion, so he won't take any chances with his current suggestion.

You may be thinking, this situation won't happen a lot, when infact it will. Many users on Sythe fear embarresemnt. They make sure their posts will represent them as positively as possible. If there is a chance that their reputation could be ruined by posting stupid stuff, they will start over-adjusting their posts to avoid any risk of embarressment. So why make them scared of this? Why not have a 3rd section for "Delayed Suggestions" so they arn't forgotten? Why keep the suggestions that will die anyway? Why are suggestions useful?

These are questions/suggestions that I think often and you may be thinking now. With the chat, questions such as these could be discussed more openly and more clearly.

Eeh, I'm still not feeling it. I don't think the current state of the Suggestions forum is pushing members away from creating further suggestions at all. Do you have anything that can back that statement? Also, suggestions shouldn't be just for a couple of people to review, the whole community should be able to give an opinion on the suggestion.

 

I think making a thread is easier. Yes it's faster discussing it real time, as anything is. But I mean with a thread people can read it in their own time. Plus as someone else already said the chat wouldn't be used. If someone suggested something there they would have to wait until someone else went in the chat for them to even read it. At least with threads everyone can read it in their own time and it's also easier to see who supports the thread if it's in a thread.

Sorry but no support. Good job on thinking of some suggestions to add though, good to see that some people want to make the site better!

This isnt some area51 or some serious govermental sector where suggestions needs real time response.

Make a topic if you have a suggestion and it will get feedback on if it is good or not.

 

I don't like it anyways - as far as I'm concerned a suggestion thread doesn't have to be fleshed out with tons of detail.
for something basic just start off with a few bullet points and flesh it out when you have the time
