    This post is incredibly contradictory.

    >We learn nothing!
    >80% of what we learn is legit

    Which is it?

We learn certain academic skills vital to our future, yet many schools, namely grade and secondary schools, do not force those skills to become habitual. Never written over a 3 page paper, and my first semester in college I'm writing 10 page papers every 3 weeks. Wish I was better prepared for that.

Yes we don't learn the "life skills" and taxes and all that, but I feel that is up to your parents to teach you those.

Even in subjects where we don't learn things that will be applicable to us later on in higher education, learning how to learn and learning how to think are valuable skills that will stay with you no matter what career path you go down.

School no longer teaches you either of these things in my opinion. Besides maybe college.

I find the education system to be very flawed. First off all, were using a 150-ish ear educational system, and in this post-modern time, some things no longer apply. Sure we don't need to know if x+1=12 what is x, but the discipline in studying and being attentive in class somehow helps us. So if theres anything school teaches us, it teaches us to self-discipline.

Much of what I have, am, and will be learning in school is directly relevant to my internship in finance (as well as my future career). It really depends on what you end up doing after school.

Also, I'm now learning the advanced probability necessary to calculate by hand things like the probability of winning stakes for arbitrary set-ups. Maybe I'm just a bit of a nerd, but I think that's pretty awesome. Every sophisticated staker that I ever knew always used Monte Carlo simulations. Don't get me wrong, those are incredibly useful. But there's just something pretty epic about doing it by hand.

I know i already said this maybe on this thread but i want to see who agrees with me.

I hate teachers who have been teaching for years. To me thats bull shit because if someone has been teaching for a certain amount of years with a full classroom they will get bored and annoyed to even come and teach. I like to have teachers who don't get fkin bored over teaching because its fkin what they signed up for and they be committed. Also another thing i hate is some teachers are dumb as fk if a student has to correct them. Please someone vote to get teachers re evaluated .. i find some non registered teachers /tutors better and much qualified to be teachers.

Well true that its up to parents but like honestly i believe it should be taught in school too just incase if you have parents that don't even care about you. I had some friends that had their parents given up on them because they didnt want a kid at all.

You kind of learn what you want to learn out of school. Things important to you will stick, and things you couldn't care less about will be forgotten as soon as you take the test on it, some subjects I see as testing how well you can care about learning material that you couldn't care less about.

IMO primary school is used to get kids used to the fact of committing 8 hours of your day 5 days a week to "work." Getting you accustomed to the grind of adult life.

Secondary schooling is IMO used to gauge dedication. If you can dedicate yourself to 8 years of Uni you'll probably be a good addition to our team i don't care about your marks or what you know i'll teach you how to do your job .9/10 times a fresh UNI grad will have more drive and ambition then a fresh HS grad. The jobs I've got using my Uni education nobody even asked to check my diploma or transcripts lol. It's only a status thing. IMO.

Can't say that I haven't learned anything from school.

But I stopped paying attention since 9th grade, i'd study on my own and get my answers marked incorrect since it wasn't the same as their text books. Since then I lost faith in the school system, and self taught myself what I know to this date.

PS:Finished high school. Did 6 months of college in Computer Science, dropped out since it would take 2 years to get to the level of coding I was already at at that time. I would have to learn the way they did it and it would affect my progression.

Bottom line, school works for some, and it doesn't for others. It doesn't for me.
