At my school here, if you ever have your phone taken away for texting in class or during lunch, then they will take it, and give it back to you at the end of the day. They tell you that they won't do anything with it, and won't search it.

But it is a lie, they do search every phone they take. A lot of people are getting suspended because one dumb ass will get caught for coming to school high, they search his phone, and find conversations with other people about smoking and doing drugs, and they suspend all of them.

My friend the other day was texting in lunch, and security came over and asked him for his phone. He took out his SIM card and battery, then gave it to security. They tried to convince him to give the battery and SIM to them, but he wouldn't do it (he had naked pictures of his phone - child pornography - would have had him expelled).

Obviously they can't force you to give them the battery, but what do you guys think about the idea of them being able to search your phone at school? And then lying about it?

Three of my friends were suspended last year (Mike, Josh, and Kevin). Kind of a funny story imo, but not for them obviously. Mike and Josh came to school high, and Mike was caught. They searched his phone, and saw conversations with Josh about him being high as well. They checked him, and surely enough, he was high. And then they searched his phone, and found conversations with Kevin. Although he wasn't high, he was in possession. All 3 of them were suspended for 7 months.

What are your opinions on the whole searching your phone idea?

When I was in high school, not giving the teachers your battery was insubordination. Which was a 5 day suspension added onto your initial punishment.

Just put a password on your phone.

Obviously different schools will have different rules.

op: No;it's completely absurd and unfair to do that. Invasion of privacy much? It's nobody's buisness what's on your phone.

You can't bring phones in my school. And if you do and they find out, they'll take it and won't give it back. Ever. They sell it and make money themselves.

They also search the phone for anything bad. Porn, information, etc. Invasion of privacy, but nothing much we can do about it.

Were allowed phones at my old school but not allowed to use the during class, I was pretty stubben didn't like to be be told what to do, if I teacher wanted my Phone I would of just told them to get F'ed there not getting it...

But they didn't really ever want to take it or anything like that.

That's an utter invasion of privacy. I just don't know what to say really, it's ridiculous. Surely it's illegal to SEARCH people's phones for malicious content. School teachers aren't the police, they just don't have the rights. Confiscation I can agree with, but not searching...

Exactly what I'm saying, they're not the police; they can't just say 'give me your phone'. It's illegal.

I'm from Sydney, Australia by the way.

Isn't that against the law? It's just stealing. When you get at my home I can't say "give me your wallet, you can't have a wallet here".

Something tells me you should have put away your phone and paid attention in English class.

My school takes away phones when they seem them out during anytime in the school day. I really don't think they search the phones...but then again, they did do random facebook checks and got people in trouble for that. (Within the school's network, that is.)
Furthermore, you should have every right to take out your SIM and battery without confrontation. Your privacy is what matters in this situation...not some piece of shit school code.

they CAN NOT suspend you if your talking or doing actions off school grounds unless it affects the school. Usually in schools they take your phone and give it back at the end of the day. Or they give it back when your mom comes in and gets it.

I think it should be under the same law that stops people from going through your mail. I've had my school do this and I was outraged. I think they shouldn't be able to take your items like that in the first place, but they are allowed to take it and search it in most schools.

They don't need a reason to suspend you. You go to their ground and they may choose to not let you in at any time.

I view school rights the same as regular civil rights. That is: You are not forced to obey the school's rules. You are free to leave at any time. If you are forced by threat (as in the U.S. for those under 16) then their morality & rules do not apply to you.

School systems cross the lines when it comes to things like this. People get suspended and expelled for things they post on FACEBOOK. That is violating the First Amendment to the Constitution(for Americans) and they do search our phones here. We have a right to privacy and the schools do not give us that right.

On school property, they can take your phone, etc. Especially if it's in the handbook or whatever. Your on their turf, your the gum under their shoe. If you don't want to give it up, get suspended, that was usually my case. If the teacher wants it, don't give it to them, who are they? The piece of shit that's getting paid to read from an answer book that have never been listened to in their life so became a teacher with some authority so people would finally listen. Give them the trouble they need, wait til the principal comes himself. Keep your grades up tho, i'm glad i don't have to deal with that shit anymore.

First off having child pornography is kinda weird. Second, we're allowed to have phones at our school but we have to keep the phone on silent. Also, not allowed to bring them out during tests.

A 16 year old sends her boyfriend a pic of her doing naughty things is considered child porn. Not really wierd in that case. However a pic of a 5 year old belonging to a 57 year old IS wierd.

BUUUUUUUUUUUt that's a discussion for another topic.
