I live in the slums, there are constant fights and people shooting up heroine outside of my apartment complex. I do not live in a closed apartment complex its almost like a motel structure. The reason i am living here is because the rent is affordable, and the building has been newly renovated. So the property is decent, the rooms are nice but outside of my protective gates is fucking hell. I've been nice to the homeless people, but now i got them knocking on the windows always trying to say hello and to use my telephone. WTF DO I DO
Gently tell them that your telephone isn't working. IF they dont have basic IQ plug out the telephone cord and say its not ringing. Hopefully this will stall time and if they ask you to fix it say "I got no money"
You'll learn quick that spending a little more money to not live in the ghetto is definitely worth it. I know that in Atlanta, if the rent is less than $300 a month, then it's usually in a bad area. It's always important to check out the area before you sign any lease. I would get out of there as soon as you can. In the mean time, just don't answer the door. I also always keep a gun in my nightstand by my bed and keep a lot of knives around the house since I use them a lot, so I'm not really worried. You should do the same. I've lived in some pretty shitty areas and have been robbed several times, so I usually always have a switchblade on me. A lot of the times though was because I was kind of asking for it. I did get robbed at gunpoint by 2 guys in a gas station bathroom though because I didn't want to buy his weed when he asked me outside. They kicked in the door while I was pissing, pistol whipped me in the head and slammed my face into the sink and I had to get stitches. I've lived all over Atlanta my whole life and it can be bad just about everywhere. I grew up in a pretty nice suburban area 30 min from downtown and it has turned to shit too and there is just as much crime there. I believe in being prepared and aware. I've had enough shit happen to me and I'm over it. Trust me, when a place in or around the city is really cheap and affordable, then chances are you don't want to live there.
Move out if you can afford to. Can't do much otherwise. Getting authorities involved, trying to dissuade said people from bothering you won't work; as that's all they know, and all they've been subjected to.
If you cant move just try to keep away from these people, if they try to come in through physical terms/force there way in call the cops.
There is no reason to call the cops. Just don't answer the door and when homeless people come up to you, then learn to say no. Tell them you don't have any money. It's not hard. Homeless people are a part of living in the city. I've also met some really cool people on the street and talked to them for a while even after telling them I had no money to give. Occasionally I'll give someone change or buy them food if they're actually cool and they don't look like drug addicts, but 9/10 times I never do. Never do it outside where you live though or let them know where your place is. I've even had homeless people chase down my car and follow me places lol.
Just tell them no or say you don't have any when they ask for money or to use your phone and don't answer the door or window when they knock. They'll just keep coming back like a stray cat if you do. If possible move to a slightly more expensive area to avoid being pestered. You could probably get a decent studio apt for around the same price you're paying now depending on the area.
I know what that feels like OP. I lived in the worst part of our worst neighborhood for 2 years, 2nd floor with my front door facing the stairwell. Had people out of their minds on drugs knocking hard at my door looking for former residents, junkie woman lived above me constantly being bashed and raped by other junkies. Could hear every conversation in a 30 meter radius, people always stood outside my door at all hours of the night having drunken conversations. Every time I went out I had to hide my $3000 laptop in a shopping bag in the back of my oven or take it with me, moved out after a shot was fired on the balcony below mine and the police came to interview me about it. (Gunshots are a big deal in Australia as our laws are tough). Decided to share a room with 2 other students until I finished my studies and could afford to live in a house by myself. Do whatever it takes to get out of there, living in such a place WILL have an adverse effect on your physical and mental well being. tl;dr Move out.
