Scammers on this site

Pretty recently I went back through my vouch list and almost everyone I've traded with in the past has been Banned.

I'm just trying to get it through my head why the vast majority of everyone ends up getting a ban on here.
Do they just trade legit for a few months to build some reputation and then steal a huge pot once they get an opportunity or something?

I've been on this site since 2007 and never considered pulling a scam on someone.
Even as people hit reply to this thread. I guarantee some of them will be getting a ban. In nearly all the threads I've read on this site. you always see 1 or more banned members.

Just wondering what the deal is. I'm also a member of another gaming boards and I don't nearly see as many scammers there as I've seen here.

Pretty much answered your own question. That or they end up getting caught ban evading. It's the sad, but unfortunate reality on this site. However, I have noticed that people who are constantly active in the community aspect of Sythe are usually less likely to scam than people that are just here for the market.

Until now I hadn't realized this site even had a community section.

I'll be more active on here tho. now that I've found it.

I just can't believe there are so many banned. It's ridiculous.

I would say that it may just be the same amount of ban evaders/scammers and not as many as you may think that it is.

It's pretty disgusting. Especially when I thought these were cool people.(At the time)

Then I go back to look and they're all banned.

I guess I'm lucky they didn't pull anything on me. I always went first and I've been scammed only once.

 

One of the good things about being a moderator is we know and talk to a lot of people. We are sometimes able to catch scammers before they scam.

This site has a big user base, so you'll see more banned members. This is also a trading forum, so obviously if there were 2 forums if equal size, the scammer is more likely to pick us as we are primarily trading.
I'd say 90%+ of scams are purely down to lack of trading knowledge by the person who gets scammed. If you take the proper precautions, you'll never get scammed

You can say that again. Alot of people will do stuff if they get the chance to. My friend i play with on TS3 Got scammed buying questing and lost 2bills worth of runescape stuff.

Now that I checked, there's a ton of banned people that vouched for me as well.

A lot come here just to scam a quick membership pin for their Runescape account, get banned, then ban evade - cycle continues.

The major majority of it is petty little amounts, however if someone builds up a reputable reputation they can go for the higher end of the scam.

It's best just to ignore the fact, there's scam artists all over the world looking to make a quick dishonest profit.

I only have like 12-13 vouches and all but like 3 are banned now ^_^. People just seem to not be able to have any self control when they are tempted.

It's the internet, you can't control what people do and you're always going to have scammers.

i was looking at some infraction post i made in '10 and everyone but 2 people in a 40 post thread was banned lol
