    Scammers everywhere

I post up a topic and my skype, log out for a few hours, back on and it is spammed with requests. This would usually be a good thing but 9.9/10 of those are scammers. Using a huge range of tricks their intent is to defraud my RSGP and leave me with no money or gold. Why are so many scammers drawn to this marketplace for? I have been around other RSGP forums and there's mostly legitimate people, but on sythe so many scammers add me compared to legitimate buyers. You would think with this forum being so saturated with them many of them would leave and try it where scams aren't so common, I can't see how anyone falls for their tricks when most of them are so obvious and then make it obvious on the ones who try hard with their scams. Why are so many scammers hanging around here and are they even making any money or just spending hours sat at their computers to make a rare $10 scam each month. They might as well get a real job, less time consuming and more money.

Try and keep your Skype hidden, and only PM it to those you feel are worthy of trading. To avoid spam adding and hack attempts I keep my Skype hidden and reasonably private.

Well it's not about jobs, sometimes it's about greed, or if they don't have money. It's all desperation. And 9/10 times banned scammers just keep evading bans, if they could stop that then there would be only a very small ammount of scammers..

Because the average Sythe user is stupid.

Where there are stupid people, there are people to be scammed.

just don't advertise your skype on your threads, have them pm you for it first....this will prevent other issues as well.

    Will happen anywhere online, really

If you request to use a trusted MM or OMM, you can weed out the scammers from the legit traders, usually.

Don't use direct PP unless they are big market traders, either.

Because a lot of people fall for stupid scams and not enough people know how to look at a Skype profile or request a PM.

Debatable tbh, there are scammers everywhere on the internet.

The average Sythe user is fucking stupid.

They're kids normally. They think they're master hackers and shit.

Some of them actually make quite a lot of money from scamming, but they always have to start over when they're caught. They'd make more money if they were just legit from the start.

    If everyone:

Always used a trusted MM or an OMM.
Always requested PM's from any Skype that added them.
    Checked the Skype profile.
Then there would be a lot less of it.

Just make it a requirement to have a omm/mm and less fees for mm/omm

more trades less fees for mm/omm more successful trades

MM/s and OMM's use the free time to MM trades.. Personally I wouldn't want to MM a trade for 2 retards and only get paid $0.10 or something. Some trades can last an hour...

MM'ing can be a hassle, hence why people charge. If you don't want to get scammed, surely it's worth the fee? There are a range of trusted, free MM's as well.

And while I like the idea of everyone using a middleman, making in mandatory would deter users in the long term, as it isn't required when two people who know each other or trust each other trade, for example

most scammers hide and seek for newcomers because most of them don't have the experience how to survive Sythe against imposters, framers and many more things. as amethyst said, keep your skype profile hided. tell people to PM you or you PM them skype to avoid more scammers. MM's can be very helpfull and sometimes OMM is needed but i totally agree with Roary, do you want to pay the little 5-10% fees only, or lose a full 100% from a scam?

Like everyone said, use an MM/OMM and there are a lot of free MM's who are extremely trusted. It's easy to work out the scammers, they're pushy and just want to get it over with.

Also, no matter where you go, even in real life you find scams everyday, people are always desperate for newer/bigger scams.

They see you as an easy target as you recently registered and may not be aware of the correct trading procedures. I would say Sythe is the most active and largest runescape blackmarket around, providing an incentive for scammers to re-register and continue scamming....

They always act smug when they've been caught and leave a quick "I'm not looking to get scammed :p "

    That quote sounds familiar.....

On topic - This basically sums it up. People fail to follow the safe trading practices, and end up getting scammed. If they'd learn to read stickies, educate themselves, and trade safely, most people would never get scammed.

Instead, as the quoted post states, the people are stupid, they ignore our tips and warnings, and instead get themselves scammed. In all reality, the scammers are only here because of the idiots that allow themselves to continually be scammed.

Sorry if this seems harsh, but it's true. I'm not going to sit here and sugar coat it, as the people who I need to get this point across to are the ones that I ultimately need to be blunt with.

I don't think most of the scammers here realize that for all the hours they spend trying to scam $30 or $40, they could of gone out and done odd jobs for 1-2 hours every day for a week, and come back and have bought 10x the amount of gold they would of gotten IF they actually succeeded in scamming someone.

Also, there's a lot more scammers because for some reason it's been made a bannable offense to post a scammers personal information, even there IP address. If someone scams there fair game, there should be a HOS section made specifically for exploiting scammers, and maybe it would provide an incentive for people to not scam, and possibly get some of the victims there money back.
