You can't claim a gift back without calling your credit card or bank company. So he may not have sent it as a gift. Just say that you have sent the item already. And if you have any screenshots of the chat or anything to show you sent it or that it really was him. Also report him here on sythe if you didnt already.
Thats about all I got for now, keep us updated about this.

First of all: Why would he cash back if YOU bought something from him? :S
Definitely what you should do if you're actually correct here, that he scammed you using claim-back.
"He agree'd to send me $x as a gift here (I asked him too so he couldn't scam me and claim it back) in return for my [x make something legit up] and you can most likely see that the sending of money and claimback was made from the same IP address and that the claimback was probably very soon from log-in?(Even if it was open for a long time... what person in someones house would find a vacant logged-in PayPal account and send someone money from it) I mean.. nobody breaks into someones house, has his PayPal account password, logs in and unaotherizedly sends a gift to someone living far away in PayPal. Please use your logic and reason in treating his claim."
