I just purchased a MPD32 MIDI Controller to make some phat beats..jk I have a really nice keyboard and me and my college friends wanna mess around on it this and the keyboard this fall.

To be honest. I have no clue about the current laptop market and what is good. Of course the first thing that pops into my head is a Macbook but that is the last thing I would want so do not suggest it. I need something 8gb RAM min, a good clock speed and I would prefer a SSD unless there are two drive bays so I can do the work on the ssd then transfer it over to the HDD. Also it needs a good battery life because I travel a lot.

I have a couple of things in mind but like I said, I am not up to date on the current market. Also, video cards don't matter, it will not be gamed on!

Well a lot of laptops don't come with 2 HDs, so you'll probably have to pick out an extra. I suggest picking out the SSD on your own since it'll be more expensive to get it as the HD for the laptop.. Give a budget so we can pick one.

I need to take my ass to sleep. Sorry bout that, 1500-1800. I could buy an internal ssd and install it then use an external hdd.

Ill pm you my new desktop build in the morning =p its sexy. I have a m14x for gaming already that is a beast...

We are all pitching in to but it and its either going to be with one of us in a studio or plugged up to out beat pad and keyboard. I guess you could look as low as possible? I just do not want it to render the sounds slow or lag up during recording of something.

Most computers won't lag with recording or anything like that. I'd be more focused on the requirements to run software like Reason & heavy adjustments well than to simply run a keyboard

Yeah you really don't need an expensive laptop for what you plan on doing with it..

Sorry I did not update it, I did end up buying the G74sx, it works like a charm and rips through everything nicely after I put in a 120gb SSD.
