Just like most virtual items they are subject to being stolen or recovered once sold.

A few common scenarios can occur where you will lose your newly acquired and expensive pet.

• Your account can be frozen for buying/selling UC pets but use some of the safety tips here and that can be avoided for the most part.
• The pet you are buying may have been recently stolen/phished and the original owner will attempt to recover it through messaging TNT (The Neopets Team) and this will incriminate you for buying stolen goods thus your account being frozen.
• Another scenario the actual seller could change their IP through use of a VPN thus later being able to message TNT to recover their "stolen pet" that was traded whilst they were "hacked". Thus you ending up most likely frozen and losing the pet you recently purchased.

That being said when done safely it benefits both parties but just be aware of the risks when buying these highly prized pets and try to buy from parties you trust.
