Why? Well i personally believe this sticky is OUT OF DATE. And also misleading.
Contains two parts where it is out of date and incorrect. The thread is locked thus it will require a Mod to edit this.

Let me break it down into two parts.

Part 1.
What can be classified as Rare?

2. Space Names – Names with multiple spaces to make it harder to look them up. When I say this I mean they have 2 or more spaces between each Character. These are rare because you can no longer make a name like this anymore.

Examples: Y---O---U, R----A--G--E, L------L, etc.

Currently wrong, with the new Display name change that Jagex has implemented. these names are once again available. Considering this, why should they be classified as "rare" when there could be hundreds of thousands of these "space names. So you could put as many spaces as you want, and the name would be available.

Part 2.
What's not Rare?
8.Display Names - Recently with a Jagex update you were allowed to remake many banned names, some, which were considered rare, were remade. Don't be fooled and don't try to fool people with these names, if they have the "Previous known as:" in game, it ISN'T a Rare Name.

Untrue, these names are as rare as the originals were. That little "previous known as" symbol goes away after a month or so. And after that, the name is yours, and no1 will know if was taken or not through display names.

To further prove my point, Display names are now the NEW and most IMPORTANT names. You could have the login name "God", but if someone takes the display name "God", guess what your named when you log in?, a beautiful set of numbers called [#233788718]. So no one gives a flying duck what your login names called.

Even Jagex has emphasized this, by forcing users to use their emails to replace log-in names for new players. Simply put, Log-in names are OVER. Noone cares about those. Only display names count and whether or not you got them through account creation or your just lucky enough to snipe it. It is rare in both cases.

That is all folks. I wrote this because i want to keep Sythe updated in all areas. Thanks guys.

P.S a note, from some feedback, i think most users have found this sticky to be useless. At the very least if you don't at least update this thread, i believe it should then be deleted. I have to agree with Plznate that common sense is almost enough for people to know.

Leaving this sticky without an update however does not seem like an logical option.

 

Not an important sticky really , but eventually it would need updating.

 

My exams have just been finished, and I've started RuneFagging again so I'm willing to take up the job of updating it if necessary.

 

No it inst that "important" however it does stick out as a sore spot. It will only take minimal time maybe less than 5 minutes of updating this sticky so doing this ASAP would be great.

 

"rare" is a subjective concept; what may seem rare to one player may be deemed as normal to another. Just use your own common sense.

 

Yes ,very true. But there needs to be a baseline for the word 'rare'

I could make a thread saying "Selling Rare Name" people will look at it and think awesome will be a cool name , when really im selling Xx Purple Xx. I could say its are because its like an old style pk name , when really its not its just garbage.

Which then leads to false title of a thread etc.

So even though my reply makes no sense and I'm just rambling on the thing to take out of this is there needs to be a definition / baseline on whats "rare"

 

If thats so, why should the sticky be there.

The sticky should at least be removed, because i do not see any point in keeping an outdated incorrect sticky on Sythe.

This sticky could be better used for something more important if that is your case.

Sure, but i think i already have everything i wrote up there, You just need to modify some stuff. For example deleting some sections such as

Delete those renumber it back correctly. And its all good to go. Also adding in that Display names are just as rare.

I personally think "rare" display names are, in fact, rare (since they're yours unless you change it)
