RSGP website fined 500k EUR for not paying VAT ?

Yesterday, a reddit topic was posted highlighting that a Dutch based site was fined 500k EUR. From reading most of it, it seems like:

1. The website was dutch. Operating since 2012. URL ending in .nl.
2. Was supposed to charge VAT on total sales. Rsgp sales being considered a service for tax purposes.
3. Lost trying to arguing for lower tax classication, and had to pay the expenses of the other side.

I’ve heard that many EU sellers haven’t been charging VAT. And that some are moving a lot of gold. So my questions to you:

a) Do you think other EU member states will start cracking down on other RSGP sites?
b) How will RSGP sites be impacted if more sites get sunk?
c) Has anyone else faced this yet?

With every gov desperate for money right now I wouldn’t be surprised to see more tax crackdowns this year. Not just in the RSGP space, but in general.

If the government think they can get some money, They will do it haha

 

A) EU shops never dominated that market and european union is the worst place to run any kind of virtual goods TRADING business
B) Other sites are usually registered in normal countries so they wont be impacted, they'll just have to hire more staff to serve customers that lost access to these shops
C) Yup, I personally resigned from running RSGP shop because of shitty VAT policy in my country and EU overall for digital currency/virtual goods trading, services are cool but trading overall is pain in ass.

 

So does this mean every non-dutch gold site needs to be charging vat to dutch/european customers?
