Free Trade = End of Runescape?

Now your probably thinking something very different when I say that the wilderness and the free trade will cause the end of runescape. I think that Jagex is giving us runescape as in it's best form (With wilderness and all) so that they can end well and focus on Stellar dawn. At runefest they mentioned that they don't think people will be playing runescape a few years down the road and so I think they are trying to make the players happy and just stop with the updates soon after adding the wilderness and free trade. I think they will still have updates for perhaps a year or so but then it will just become small ones to keep the servers up. I think they are trying to really work on stellar dawn and get the player base to move over there. Opinions?

EDIT: Read Nate's post a ways down. He pretty much sums up what I'm trying to say. I don't think runescape is going to end tomorrow. I am saying that I think they are going to stop putting as much in, in a couple of years.

I doubt it, if the wild and free trade come back I bet you anything the amount of players online at anytime will double. I think they might bring in stellar dawn, but I don't think they would just down cast runescape.

They aren't doing this primarily for money. Their company is worth over 100 million pounds. That's why I think they are just trying to end runescape as best as possible.

I see where your coming from, I mean I wouldn't say they are going to END it, but slowing down and making the transition to update runescape less and other venues more, I could see that. After all, rs has been alive for 10 years and is still kicking, with the dark ages being the last 3 years. I doubt they will ever stop updating the content and adding material, but its frequency will most likely slow down alot as other games are released. TBH, I like where runescape is now and as others have said, people will always be playing it. I mean for gods sake people still play RSC and DOOM online likes it the next best thing, so runescape will always be around and hopefully it will stay bug-free, don't want it to go to crap or anything, but not having new content every month wouldn't be the end of the world.

Will I make the transition to stellar dawn? nty, im too ingulfed in runescape and mainly just too knowledgable to go to something and be a noob again, its the main reason i never got into WOW, who wants to be a noob in a different game when you rock at the one you already play?

Not really, they make a hell of a lot of money from runescape, they're not just going to stop it.

Why would a company making a shitload of money from a game all of a sudden try to move their player base to another game which they are not sure they will like ?

Cmon, that's like Coca-Cola stops selling Coke because they made Sprite..
    Just wouldn't make sense.

im pretty sure if stellar down comes jagex is going to want people to play that instead of runescape but at the same time they dont want to abandon runescape but they cant have both at the same time because neither will be fully sucessfull.

but i like your idea, they want to end it on a good note.

    End Runescape?

Well, they must be trying to give the users a briliiant update that will last for a while, so they can focus on other projects.

Hopefully, this will bring back a lot of legit players, and make the game a lot more popular. I hope it will be like old times in terms of trading.

They will only shut off rs if something insanely wrong happens.
But people will continue no doubt.

No, I don't think the wilderness and free trade coming back will put an end to runescape.

It just doesn't seem like a good business model: End your company when your company's sales are about to skyrocket. At least thats what I presume will happen.

I'm baffled to see someone say that that free trade would destroy the game when the removal of free trade was the dumbest update ever that made so many people quit.

    This ^

I don't think Stellar Dawn is going to have half the subscribers that Runescape does.

I don't get it; it wouldn't make sense for jagex to drop a cashcow like this. I mean funcom has been lugging around the low population game Anarchy Online for almost 10 years now, and they keep it because it keeps people happy and it brings in steady income. And not only are they doing regular updates, but they are actually moving the game to the Age of Conan engine.

Although jagex has been known to make horrible decisions.

Considering what a cash cow runescape is, they have no reason whatsoever to simply end it. They might focus less on it, but they will not "end" RS.

Definently pay less attention to runescape, but never just end it. Stellar dawn is probably going to be there primary focus soon.
