WARNING: Programs which use function keys

Jagex has added function key operability to Runescape. Pressing the various function keys causes the menu window to switch to different menu screens. For example, pressing F1 switches to the combat menu.

While it doesn't appear to stop the function keys from performing their tasks in third party programs, it's apparent (to me at least) that this is a good way for Jagex to monitor function key usage and detect script/auto users. Nor would I put it past them to have set up function keys for exactly that purpose.

As an example, the excellent client EliteSwitch uses F1, F2, and F3 for its auto-talk feature. Pressing F1 will still send the auto-message, but it will also switch Runescape's menu window to the combat menu (and I would imagine that even if the menu were kept on combat, that Runescape is still receiving requests to switch to that menu when F1 is pressed). It wouldn't be difficult for Jagex to set up monitoring of the function keys and take an auto-snapshot of accounts which do it X times in Y timeframe. They would see, for example, 30 F1 requests, and 30 "Selling airs 20 ea" spaced between the F1 requests. Auto-talker caught, account banned.

Hm maybe the makers of bots and stuff should change some of the keys, that will fix the problem.

 

It's not a matter of how hard it is to detect. The point is that this will flag any account that overuses function keys and possibly automatically record what that account does to see what's going on.

Jagex never did ban everybody who used autos or bots. This new detection method just gives them an excuse ("evidence") to ban who they please.

 

They aren't going to ban you for using hotkeys on other programs while playing runescape.

 

They don't really give a damn about AutoTalking unless you spam with it.

 

true there are alot of muted accounts but think of it how many people out of 10 do u think use any kind of auto? because if they banned every auto user i think there would only be about 50 people playing runescape lol

 

if you get shortkey lite, it helps, you can type a word or phrase, and it can change it, so i do two zero and a nine, and does this:
