Grand Exchange Merchanting (FREE)

Methods covered:
Set merchanting
Quick item merchanting
Clan merchanting
Shard merchanting

Set Merchanting:
Requirements: 2M-30M

Overview: Set merchanting is rather popular for new merchanters, it is rather low risk and can be very profitable. The basic idea is that people often buy things in the set rather than in individual parts. Therefore the individual parts for the sets are usually selling for lower than the whole set. Set merchanters take advantage of this. A downside to set merchanting is that it is very hard to do more than one set at once due to the ge space limits.

How to do it: Examine the grand exchange database for sets that have gone up in price, these are usually the best canidates. When you find one that seems like a reasonable merch then buy one set as low as possible then attempt to sell the set. If you instantly get profit then it is probably a good merch. If you even out on money then it is still probably a good merch, you will just need to buy for less and let it sit overnight. If you lose a bunch then it is most likely a bad merch.

Common sets to merch:
Mystic(all)
Barrows(most of them)
God d'hide(zammy and sara) - Called blessed when in a set
Cannons(My personal favorite)

Things to note: One of the biggest things to note is that a set might be fantastic to merch one week and the next it is terrible. If your set goes sour then stop merchanting it and wait a few weeks to try it again.

Quick Item Merchanting:
Requirements: 1m+

Overview: This method is my personal favorite due to it being the most challenging, yet most rewarding sort of merchanting that I know of. The principle of this is to predict when an item is going to go up, buy the item, and sell it relativly shortly after(within a day or 2). This is much more profitable for people with large sums of money over set merchanting because of the ability to merchant many items at once. Downside is that if you are unwise you could easily end out losing 5% of the invested money.

How to do it: Examine the grand exchange pages for items that are useful to skillers that have gone up for the day (usually around 1-3%). The best items to merchant tend to be between 500 and 10k. Try buying about 10 of the item at medium price, if they buy right away then look for a new item. Once you find one that does not buy at medium instantly, put as much money as you wish in at medium + a few coins. Again.. if the item starts selling rapidly you should cancel because it will make little to no profit. If not, wait a day and hopefully you will have bought out as much of the item as you want. You can then usually sell for near max price.

Common items to merch:
Herbs(lev 50+ herbs)
Ores
Potions

Things to note: NEVER attempt to remerch the same item 2 time in a row (ex. buying 10k range pots, selling next day and buying another 10k). This will almost always result in a loss. I have released my ge merching advisor that helps to find items for this method faster than searching through all items. Info located here: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?p=4805715

Clan Merchanting:
Requirements: 20m+(usually)

Overview: There is much controversy over the clan merchanting in runescape. The idea is to create a large group of people who all buy as many of one item as they can. The item will then skyrocket in price over a period of time. The whole clan would then "dump" the item, selling all of the item back to the ge when it reaches a certain price or "dump date". The problem, as you can imagine, is that when everyone dumps the item, who will buy it because the demand has suddenly been reversed. Because of this, often clan leaders will dump their item before telling the rest of the clan to dump theirs.

How to do it: Find a merchanting clan, they arent hard to find. Check world 2 for spammers telling the clan channel. Although this method can be VERY profitable for people with huge sums of money, it is very commonly a loss of money making it a high risk, high return method of merchanting. I do not advise it.

Things to note: This merchanting method is the most dangerous explained here, unless you are ok with the risk of losing 20% of your investment, do not try this. That being said, the first merchant I did with this method I made 20m off of my 40m investment. The last merchant I made with this method I lost 9m off of my 50m investment.

Shard Merchanting:
Requirements: High summoning level, lots of money and serious about merchanting

Overview: The idea behind shard merchanting is to buy pouches in the grand exchange and exchange the pouches for shards. These shards often have a higher trade value than the pouches. They can then be easily traded in world 2 for around 17-19gp cash + 6-8gp in junk for each shard. This junk can then be used in a variety of ways.

How to do it:Find a pouch that is profitable (and have the summoning level to trade for shards), buy the pouch and trade it for shards. You can then go to world 2 and trade this for 17-19gp cash + 6-8gp of junk each. This junk can then be used for lending expensive items or merchanting rares and other items.

Things to note: These shards can also be used for cheaper summoning levels than buying the shards. This merchanting method is probably the hardest to master and will take a lot of time to start making real money with, however it has the potential for making great profit.

If you have any suggestions or other merchanting ideas then please tell me. Ill make this a bit nicer to read in a bit.

you still have some text with dark colors
dont change them to white, rather, change them to a bright color
edit: change the "overview" on each paragraph to light green
change the "how to do it" to pink / bright purple
