I have reviewed the chat video and I don't believe you were very clear in stating that the gold was stolen. You said it was money from 'your friend's stuff' that you had sold and that you'd 'take anything for it'. You then said later that you hoped he didn't 'notice his stuff was gone'.

I'd compare this to selling some stuff in your friend's garage. If you had access to the garage, then depending on your relationship this might be ok. I agree however that when you said the gold was from selling your friend's stuff, the buyer should have asked if you had the right to sell the gold in the first place.
