Rep/Thanks System

I read the DNS thing.
Here was the reason as to why they should not be added:

We have the vouch system and it works well.

Repping/Thanking goes so much farther than just Vouching. You vouch to show that something went smooth and successful and you want people to know that this guy/girl did a good job and deserves to be deemed trusted.

For one of the two systems, it goes way beyond the markets.
You can thank someone for just a solid post in even the Spam section. It's a lot more Universal and has so many different ways to get used beyond the Vouch system, believe me. It's always proved to be successful, no matter what forums I've been on, and I've frequented on many.

At least give it a one-week trial and see how people handle it.

 

It will be abused and it's hard to regulate.

I would honestly love a rep system, but I don't see it happening unfortunately.

 

It wouldn't be abused if you had limitations.
For example: You can only Rep someone after Repping 10 other people before you can Re-Rep them.

$100+ Donators could have De-Rep.

People seem to be so skeptical about it, but I've seen so much success out of it that it's just silly to be skeptical.

Of course not. I'd hope it wouldn't be used as a [5000 REP][OMM][1000 Vouches] Thing.

I just like the concept of seeing when someone shows appreciation towards your post. In fact, maybe it could be disabled in trading and just make sure people know that having a high Rep has nothing to do with your trading credentials.

How do you stop others from de-repping in spite of something? Ridiculous as it may sound, I can see this as a tactic to torment other users indirectly.

You would have to come up with some crazy time restrictions of repping/de-repping to suppress an event like this.

Then don't even have De-Rep. Most don't. It was just a little perk I've seen for the higher contributors, but not necessary by any means.

I think "Repping Rules" could easily be placed; however.

Believe me, I've been on a few forums where "rep" is used, and it's not a very good system. People will start to base trust more off of rep than vouches or at least think of them as equals; however, how does making a good post make someone more trustworthy? People are going to abuse this to no end, and it definitely shouldn't be implemented.

wut? That's redundant against the whole idea.

This is why I said have rules:

1) Rep does not go with Trading and has nothing to do with trading. Do not trust people based off how high their rep is.
2) Plug-in Where you need to Rep 10 other people before you can Rep the same person
3) The higher a Person's Rep, the more rep points they give to somebody else.
Etc. Etc. Etc.

 

It wouldn't cooperate well with the current infrastructure. the current vouch system is fairly "old fashion" but it works very well. Introducing something like this would interfere with something that already works so perfectly.

There are some other sites that have feedback/rep/vouches and it's just a cluster fuck for new users that cant necessarily distinguish the difference between what is most valid.

What functional purpose does a "rep" tracking number even serve for the community? We don't have any use for it, the forums functio great as it is. Post count, and join date contribute to how social and active you are on the forums, and vouches demonstrate responsibility and trust. Throw rep into the mix and everything starts to become convoluted.

 

I've never seen the point in the rep system. It is the equivalent of saying 'I have 50 vouches' well if all of those 50 vouches are for training level 3 accounts a few levels then that nigga ain't trusted. If someone with 3 vouches came up but all the vouches was him going first in like 500m trades I'd trust him. All I can see a rep system being is like a vouch repository system. It wouldn't display the number and all it would be is a database where vouches can be entered and searched a little easier than using google or the forum search function to find specific trades or something.

 

This works fine on gamebattles and other sites but that's because they aren't directly market oriented. People are going to derep people they don't like and rep people they do like so what does this achieve? Nothing more than just sorta blowing each other or biting each others penis's which is a scary thought.

Afterthought: The Thanks thing works really great on advice where it's nice to acknowledge that someone has assisted you. But unfortunately this would be swayed by market opinions.

 

This a thousand times over. I know many forums that use rep and it is abused by a bunch of immature, power-hungry [insert derogatory word(s) here]. It's unnecessary with the vouch threads we have. People usually kiss up more with a rep system and anyone could get a high reputation and scam by looking trustworthy. Personally I think if you want a good "rep", you shouldn't have to have a system implemented to do so; make a name for yourself here instead.

I have never found a rep system to be successful, ESPECIALLY for the type of trades this site mostly deals with.

 

Rep system will be highly abused in my opinion and will be hard to control. It has its pros and cons but overall I feel the cons outweigh the pros so I don't think this should go through

 

Agreed with that , most of the people will just like rep themselves to have good repotation / be more trusthworthy.
