Are there any procedures I should take after the Windows 10 upgrade from 8.1?

In my experience, you're best off just installing windows 10 fresh. You can use your windows 8 key during the install.

The "upgrade" process has never worked properly for me, and always has long term negative effects in terms of system stability or performance.

Prime example: My upgrade from 7-10, ran into blue screen errors. At the time 10 wasn't expressly accepting windows 7/8 keys during install, so I tried an alternative. I formatted again, installed 7 fresh, then immediately upgraded to 10. Still had issues. Ultimately I installed 10 fresh and cracked it for the time being until I figured out how to migrate my windows 7 key - and it worked just fine.

^ Like N4n0 said, I would go for a Fresh install. You can download the OS directly from Microsoft and use your current key to install it.

This will ensure things such as your drivers are not overlapping and possibly butting heads with one another.

Throw your files you want on an external and do a clean install. Maybe even pickup an SSD boot drive/upgrade to a full SSD drive prior to the install.
