    2007 Rs - Dubious Longevity?

I just voted today after quitting since 2011 due to the downwards spiral the game was taking. I'm considering returning to 2007RS but I'm having doubts about how long it'll last. I don't trust Jagex at all with their track record of flip flopping on things in the past. In my opinion Jagex premeditated the return of the 2007 servers. It definatley wasn't because they happened to find an old cache of the game. I think the return of Rs 2007 is purely profit driven and in the end we the players will get shafted if it doesn't work out.

Honestly, given the fact that Runescape classic was closed how long before they decided to close 2007 RS because it's not meeting their revenue targets? This is why I'm a little apprehensive about starting an account and committing time and effort.

    Thoughts?

RSC isn't a completely fair comparison. From what I remember, the initial split between RS2 and RSC was all screwed up. For the first two weeks, you were supposed to be allowed to freely transfer your items back and forth between the games, ultimately choosing one by the end of that two week period. But half way through, out of no where, Jagex took out the transfer option, causing tons of players to have their items stuck on one game or the other. Shortly after they closed down RSC to the making of new accounts, and dropped support for it completely. It seemed obvious they wanted RSC to die.

Based off my memory, the RS-2007 split doesn't exactly parallel the RS2/RSC split. I think Jagex needs RS-2007 to actually be successful, because EOC isn't looking too good right now.

I'm not totally convinced yet. There is an argument that can be made that most people are playing it for nostalgic purposes what happens after that wears off 8-12 months from now and 5,000 are playing at any given time? Will they cut the cord then?

I don't know what to say then. Either enjoy it now and hope for the best later, or just don't bother. The fresh-start MMORPG experience is well worth spending the free month on, in my opinion. I don't have the time to dedicate myself to it much anyway, so whatever happens down the line won't have much an impact on me.

I don't think is dying soon.

The hype is so big and the people seem to be enjoying it like crazy now.

Also, if you see there's almost half of the online users playing on the new servers at all times, while the eoc is still sucking major balls.

If they really want to, they could make more money off the 07 version than the stupid EOC version.

I think if we reach 500k it might actually convince them that 2007 RS is worth pushing for but on the other hand I read a post by MMG that said they would never replace EOC with 2007.

I think ~500k votes, granted some of them are people with multiple accounts/votes, is a lot more interest than RSC ever had. I definitely see it lasting quite a few years, if we get the 500k or there abouts to fund the development team which will in turn introduce anti-botting measures etc so the economy and what not isn't totally destroyed there too.

Classic was faded out it just wasn't played by as many people and most people preferred rs2 over rsc. By time they opened rsc back to the public it just didn't have enough interested as the game had evolved and so had it's players. The difference now is it's the only runescape people enjoy they won't even touch EoC. So this is a game for anyone who played between 2004 and the release of eoc to play a game that they love and enjoy so much. Will the activity drop? You'd expect it to die down eventually but I think there will always be a strong community of at least 40-50k active players.
