Recovering a stolen Hotmail account?

So, around 3-4 years ago I got scammed and the dude that scammed me managed to get into & steal my email account too (used the same password, stupid 14 year old me). I never really tried recovering it because I didn't really have anything important on it. Recently I found out that 3 character Xbox Live gamertags are going anywhere in between 80 and 150 dollars, and I had a 3char on that email account. I've tried recovering it using Microsoft's account recovery but I get an automated email a few minutes later saying I didn't provide enough info to recover the account. Anyone have any idea how to recover a stolen hotmail account? If someone can help me out and gives me a method that works I'll throw them $5 BTC or PP. I'd prefer not to call them but if that's the only way I will.

If they have any automated way to do so, I'd recommend looking into that; however, past that, you're stuck calling them. I've had to call AOL to recover AOL accounts before, and it's a bit tedious but they are usually helpful, so
