Theres people like this: http://www.sythe.org/member.php?u=258267 who spend all day posting just to look somewhat reputable in order to scam people... is there any measures that can be taken to prevent such extreme stupidity?

I can't believe these people would go to such low extremes. But then again, it might no be to "scam" people.

If it isn't to scam people, what is it?
I have a theory about such people. They join and post a shitload in a day or two, only to end up scamming. They post a lot to make new members stupidly trust them not to scam. The new members do so and BOOM! scammed.

So bottom line is, there's nothing we can do because there will always be people like these. We should just be cautious when trading and not fall for such stupidity. Always use a MM and check the vouches/posts from them. Run checks on their email address to see if it matches a banned member.

Yep.. me either. However, we just watch their footsteps.. only a matter of time before they step into market and get caught.

Which is why people are idiots to trust post count.

The staff can't really do anything about post whores unless they're posting useless spam; I suppose I could imagine a system where a max of 50 posts per day count towards one's total, but it would be useless. Post count measures exactly what it claims to, nothing more. Don't read into it.

I think they're getting caught too late. They caught after scamming, which then makes their victims leave Sythe. One of the ways to prevent this is catching evaders, which is why I do it. They usually come back and try and scam. Filing a report and getting them banned before they find a victim is essential.

As a mod I try my best to review all those that post in market however even you can understand it takes time.. If anything, I would ask members understand the increased risk of members with no serious trade history and also, give us time to review threads which come to market. My opinion is quick trades are a good clue that they're in a hurry for another reason.

Yeah, the thing is though newer users won't be able to grasp this point of view and many will inevitably get scammed due to such low lives. Something should be done to prevent this.

I love seeing these morons. All you have to do is go through all their post and 5+ spams are almost guaranteed. Such an easy ban method for us regular users.

EDIT -Also remember morons who try to trade fast without details are usually trying to pull your strings. As a MM, it is my and other MM's job to account for the "speed" of a trade. I also encourage background checks via google while the trade is taking place.

Who are you to call him a scammer? He has 9 infraction points right now, probably going to end up at 25ish once the posts are taken care of, but he's banned because of infractions, not scamming.

Though, I'm sure you're right, he probably will.

There are 2 or 3 pending reports on him in RaS, aren't there?
Anyways, i have quite a lot of posts/day, and I'm not here to scam. I'd have a lot more but i report more than i post. I don't find it necessary to post telling someone they posted in the wrong section.

There is a simple solution to this. Don't trust people on post count trust them on vouches.

Post count means nothing, and you should always use a middle man no matter how many posts a member has.

I never thought that postcount was a good idea. Let me explain.

    1. Firstly some (or most) users mesure reliability with postcounts. This means users who only join to intend to scam start spamming threads, because vouches would take too long for them to gain reliability.

    2. I think the main objective of the postcount in the first place was to indicate activity of a user in Sythe. If this is true, why just not add a "Activity Rate" replacing postcount?

    3. Reliability and postcount are very different things, so we have to keep that in mind. Everyone has the ability to spam.

You should never trust people based on their post count. Get to know the community and you will never be mistrusted. Honestly you shouldn't even base it upon their join date. I joined in 07 but, i'm not even well known!

It's kind of the same with join date. e.g someone joins in 2006 way back, they never used forums, they suddenly remember and think it's a good chance to scam and people will trust them because of their join date.

The only good way to trust people is by their vouches, which still isn't too safe because they could suddenly decide to scam.

Really... you should just use an OMM or if you can't pay the fees, get a good trusted MM

Simple, there's about 60 forums here to post in. It'd take about an 30-60 minutes to post in one thread in all the forums. That's a maximum of 120 posts per hour. 2 Hours worth of posting and they'd have over 200 :)
