I think the only way JaGex can keep the bot count down is by promoting a large amount of users to a moderator position and have them patrol the obvious places such as Yews, willows and green drags etc.

Bot if you want, if you want to play legit then play legit.

It's the players choice...Jagex fucked up there own game tbh and doubt they care as the botters pay for the p2p - (members botting of course).

Don't you worry. Jagex would never have brought back old RS if they couldn't handle bots.

My best guess is, on Feb 1st there will be like 50+ people on the RS Cheating section of the site spamming "OMG got banned".

To be perfectly honest the game has none of the fun it used to have back in the day. It's all just boring now with nothing to aim for and I never find the energy to do things legit.

With the announcement of pking again my view changed on the game.
In my opinion pking is the best part of the whole game. I don't care how you fund your account or how much you stuff up the economy it's impossible to bot and is pretty much the only true skill remaining in the game. (Along with staking and all that)

IMO, Jagex was already brought to breaking point due to the reasons RWT/Botting and now are moving onto StellarDawn and other projects. Bringing the wilderness and free trade back is for the profit of the company and not related to any decisions on the communities behalf.

just like with any games where people cheat its up to the MAKERS to prevent it its not the fault of the players that cheat :) the makers have made it possible to cheat so they should prevent it.

    this goes for all games

Why do we get fat? Well that's simple because we're lazy, i'm not fat i actually have a six pack (Just thought i'd throw that in there ;) )

Anyways, on a serious note same rule applied in a very un-authodox way but these people usually go in a cycle, they become very upset at themselves, they try/fail to rebuild motiviation to do things, then eventually just accept it.
Then develop something serious and die.

This -in turn is how runescape will possibly go, they will try to fight the bots and ban them, and taking away the wilderness ect stopped it, now they've become restless with players dieing out and quitting, they're losing 'money' reffered to motivation, and they've now become restless and given in to people by bringing what they'd initially taken away, BACK.
People are FUCKING LAZY, and they're killing the game they choose NOT TO PLAY. Why play it if you're simply ruining it by not lifting a finger.

True because why would they not ban people and reset accounts rather than permanently get rid of them. It doesn't make much sense..

i agree with you 100%. before the free trade and wilderness were taken out, it was mostly just companies in china gold farming, that made up 80% of the macroing. now since bigger and better bots are around, every monster your killing, theres someone next to you botting. it used to only be yew tree's where you could see bots, now theyre everywhere

    Well heres my story;

I started RS when I was 9 in 2001. The year that Runescape came out. I had all the free time in the world to play however much I wanted to outside of school. I got addicted and by 2002 I was a top PKer, and I'm almost positive I had one of the richest accounts at the time in RS. I did this ALL legit. Of course, it did come a bit easier for me because I was able to stack pile quite a few Party Hats and D.O.R's etc. But eventually I grew up, and spent more time with friends and after school activities.

I had spent so much time when I was younger playing the game addictively and legit that when I didn't have the time come 2003-2004, and the readjustment to RS2...I had lost faith in the game. I had started botting, first in 2003 trying to get 99 mining. And after I got banned for the first time I decided that 'that was it, I'm not getting banned anymore. I'm going to be legit'. Thats when I found out that it was impossible.

You grow really fond of the fact that you can do little work, score huge profit, for no effort. With this attitude, playing legit just seems stupid. So what if you get banned? Just bot up another perfect account. JageX doesn't IP ban anymore, so their is no fear of anything and you feel invincible.

That's basically my story. Nowadays, the only thing I do legit is Logout, login, change worlds, and PK.

So many people bot.. why? Because it's HARD to get banned.
And there are so many different types of scripts out there, lots of money makers.. People see it's easy to make money/gain stats.
    And they go for it.

This sounds like the routine I had with my old main that was banned back in September. Everything was 100% done by hand till about the beginning of summer until I discovered bots. They were just so much better than spending the amount of time actually doing everything. All I aimed for was money, and that was my downfall.

Wow, didn't expect that response but if you follow through with it, good work.

I find that hard to believe, but what do you do in game? Everything?

There is always a flaw in every good system that is built.

First of, I do have to say I agree with you, to a degree.

I think that botting has actually made the game that it is. Without that constant flow of gold and items the game would actually flop. Unfortunately, part of the RuneScape economy relies on the botters to keep a balance. Some people abuse this of course, really there is no reason to have 2.147M.

Do remember it is a game, and it is a game that we play. I also have played since '05 and I have seen this game develop into something HUGE. Jagex really hit the nail on the head and they are making a load off of this one. The problem is, from the beginning they said "no botters, no rwt," which in return gave them this: "I am GOING to bot, and I am GOING to RWT!"

Jump out of RuneScape for a second here and make a similar analogy, "No marijuana." "I am GOING to smoke, and I am GOING to deal!"

Back to RuneScape. See how that works? We just like to break rules, thats all. Jagex knows, but doesn't admit, that those gold farmers are keeping stability. Don't you think that they would try a lot harder if they really didn't want that?

As an original 2005 member, I can testify that I have seen it go from, no RWT to completely RWT. Botting came about when people realized they could make money off of a game that they didn't even need to play. They realized that there was money to be made and a demand that no one was feeding. People just adapted that to their own personal use. Yes, the highscores are fucked. Yes, there are a lot of pures. Yes, there are a lot of 99's. But who cares? Won't there eventually be that many, even if we did do it by hand?

    Just my thoughts. =\

I will agree with the lazy remarks, humans are lazy and if something can be done faster or quicker that is undesirable (like getting a 99) then people will jump at it, especially if it comes fit with an easy-to-use GUI. But I don't think this will lead to the decimation of runescape, but maybe an era within it.

What I mean is think about movies for example. 20 years ago, the movie theater was the hot-spot for hanging out, catch all of your favorite films and they would stay on the big screen for months at a time, when they finally hit VHS you had probably already seen them multiple times, but thats ok it was fun. Then the movie store market hit big, theaters started replacing films quicker because as movie rental places gained popularity filmmakers realized alot of profit was being made at places like this so they didnt really need there film to be in theaters for 5 months to make a living.

This spurred more and more people to make movies as the profit margins were wider, even straight to VHS movies that didnt even hit theaters could pull in some dough if it could catch the eyes of regular movie renters. Then the most recent era, the instant gratification era. Movies can be picked up and dropped off at various red-box style depots all over town, can be delivered to you in the mailbox if you don't want to leave your property, and even streamed to your laptop if you do not even wish to get out of bed. There much cheaper and more accessible a double positive that is currently putting movie rental places out of business and requiring theaters to cycle movies every couple of weeks to keep a steady flow of traffic to stay afloat.

The point of the story is this, any niche in life is dynamic, it changes as people change. Human nature is to make something easier to do, less work involved, less thinking needed, making it available to more people at a lower cost with higher profit margins, to overall..........make money. The bots are damn good because bot-makers are money-hungry just like everyone else. The players are hungry for stats or if they have dealings at places such as sythe, maybe they are IRL money hungry as well and are using bots to attain that money.

Overall, this is a new era of runescape, bots are alot of places, but they aren't everywhere. Now that freetrade is out, I believe that bots will become LESS of a problem tbh. Yes they flood the market with supplies, lowering the value of these items so that legit players get less for there hard work. But also realize that whatever items those legit players are saving money will also be equally deflated by botters in that aspect of the game. This balance will keep the relative work:item ration roughly the same.

Meaning, if you mine this rock for this long and sell it, you will be able to afford this gear. If you pay less attention to the gp number you are using and more attention to the work in--> [] -->gear out, you will see that nothing really changes with this process and a free trade economy.

On a lighter note, I am an avid botter, but I still enjoy playing legit sometimes. I find that when I focus on using bots to better my account for pking, Pking is my overall goal in runescape, to be good at it and to succeed while doing it. Pking cant be botted, so it doesn't bother me that im not playing the game to achieve my stats, as long as I get to then use my time and talent to utilize those stats to defeat another player. Others quest and some do other non-bottable things to find a hint of fun and prestige within runescape.

I don't think bots make the world go around, runescape wouldnt change much if they dissappeared (besides a considerable lower number of memberships of course), but people would still find other things to rant about, and gold would be super expensive per mil but items wouldnt be worth near as much gold so as I said before, ratios would remain nearly the same.

I like bots, I understand why some do not like them, I don't think runescape will crash with them staying or leaving, I do feel bad for people who get called botters that did it legit but tbh there are still plenty of ways to express your devotion, skill, and talent in runescape that isnt bottable and therefore would show your true glory should you choose to partake in it.

My theory is, don't bot gold, bot fair. I mean don't be an idiot and ruin the game for others! If your booting iron ore and your always getting the ore, don't suicide there! Something like that is being an ass!

    Thanksyiu fir awesome topic
