Is the U.S justice system trolling?

I feel as if it has to do with Oklahoma is somewhat a southern state.

Church and religion is a big part of the southern culture, I'm guessing the judge is from the south which is why church plays such a role in the sentence.

Although, that shouldn't be playing a part in the sentencing since there is separation of church and state.

Either way, I would rather have to go to church than prison, pretty much everyone would.

I don't think that he should be forced to go to church if he's not religious in anyways. Too many people drink and drive...

Going to church regularly can actually have a positive impact on people. It doesn't matter if you believe in the religion or not.

This is actually true whether people want to agree with it or not, there have been studies that have shown it. Also it is kind of like that one judge that makes people stand outside on the street corner wearing a sign that says 'I am X and I committed Y'

That is a ridiculous punishment. Being forced to go to church is not something that should be considered a legal punishment. On a related note, I feel that the increase in the amount of suspended sentences that judges worldwide are handing out are ridiculous.

Oh boo hoo, kid gets to stay out of prison in return for learning positive morals and having possibly a life altering experience for the next 10 years. Guys, I've seen the inside of a church and it's more than just a bunch of heathens passing around a plate with money.

On another note, the punishment isn't going to church... The punishment was 10 years of probation... Going to church is just one of the terms, and if I may say so myself a pretty good tradeoff for other punishment terms that could have been given instead lol.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal if you ask me!
