To play or not to play...

Hey Sythians,
So I've heard pretty mixed things about this game (addicts vs haters). I was just curious on your honest thoughts on whether you believe it worth getting into the game or not. Do you regret starting it, or do you wish you invested your time elsewhere?
I've played a bit of Dota, WOW, RS, Counter-strike. And that's about the extent of my PC gaming. Should I venture into this controversial abyss? Please help !

 

Well if you've played Dota 2 then you know that the games are a bit similar but also vary quite a bit. It's a fun game honestly. Completely free to play and a system that allows you to purchase usable champions and runes to help you in game using points gained from simply playing games. Although sometimes it takes a while to accumulate points. There are also cosmetics called "Skins" that allow you to make your champions look more appealing using "Riot Points" that are purchased using IRL money. Riot Points can also be used to purchase champions as well. League of Legends has become especially popular this past year (2013) so I'd give it a try if you have the time and if you like MOBA games then this is definitely for you.

When people suggested I start playing the game, the first thought that came to my mind was that the game was extremely complicated (three lanes, 5 roles, rune pages, masteries, so many different items, CSing, map awareness, champions' abilities)... but it turned out that it wasn't as hard actually playing and getting into the game as I originally thought. I'm happy that I started playing and I wish I started sooner. To me, there's something really satisfying about carrying a ranked game or winning a really close game.

 

That pretty much summed up everything I needed to about the mechanics behind it I was a little confused as to what all the fuss was here in the Sythe markets for a F2P game, but I now see ;D thanks a billion!

And yep that's already swamping me. But I think I'll heed your advice and just jump in (obviously nooby games) and pick it up as I go then let's hope 2014 is a big year then? ^_^

 

I was a hater. Then I played. I've since gathered about 20ish referals of friends who play daily now.. Lol

 

League is amazing, extremely fun.

It can get competitive and has its moment of brilliance/disgust but that's just the community of gaming.

 

Yeah, from my Dota 2 play, the community is really friendly / helpful / tolerable (to an extent).. But apparently this doesn't extend to LoL?
