I am really into this kind of thing, but I don't see how they can be used in any situation other than tying two things together, or using it as kindling for a fire (which I could just carry around a regular rope for both of those things).

What else could it be used for?

 

Making a snare, keeping food safe up in a tree and away from bears, and looking cool
