    Hey there fellow Sythers (?),

I'm curious as to peoples' opinions when it comes to ghosts and other paranormal phenomena. Do you think ghosts (spirits, other-worldly entities, etc.) exist? Why so? Do you have any personal experiences? (etc.)

I have one story and another experience that happens currently:

    story -

When I was around 10-12 years old, around 8 pm, I was in my room doing typical shit when I hear what sounds like a witch's laughter off in the distance outside. I was creeped out by it as it was very clear, but didn't think much of it because it was outside (and sounded far away). Probably a half hour later, I heard the laughing again but this time it sounded MUCH closer to my house. I was actually pretty fucking scared. But this wasn't the worst part. When I finally decided to go to sleep, probably an hour or so later, I hear the laughter BUT IT SOUNDED LIKE IT CAME FROM SOMEWHERE IN MY FUCKING HOUSE. I shat brix. It was probably the point in my life where I was the most scared ever. I had to force my dad to come and sleep in the bed with me cuz I was fucking scared shitless lol.

Currently: Every once in a while in my room, I hear people talking on the other side of my wall (which, behind the wall, is the outside). It's weird, doesn't really freak me out, but my neighbor's house is pretty far so I wouldn't hear them talk or anything and sometimes it's at night. Weird...

Also; kinda related but read if you like, it's about a dream of mine. I had a dream (more like nightmare) where I was running from something in a house. I don't remember the nightmare clearly as it was a very long time ago, but what I do remember is that at one point in the dream I was hiding from whatever I was hiding from in a closet (with the ability to see through the shutter-like things) and I saw a mummy/skeleton figure searching for me. Sounds corny but the feeling I got from that dream was that of such realistic dread..Kinda like where in a dream if you're having sex it actually feels euphoric, but the opposite.

Anywho, post away guys and gals.

    Ghosts do not exist.

If they do exist, prove it to me.

Oh wait, you can't. I guess they don't exist.

True, but there are many experiences where people cannot explain what they have encountered - such as mine. (Though, I admit, mine isn't a very good example).

I cannot prove aliens to you, yet can you explain the thousands of spotted UFO sighting across the world each year that are never explained by authorities, etc?
Just because you cannot fully prove something does not mean they simply do not exist.

Description of Sleep Paralysis & commonly reported symptoms

I have fairly frequent episodes of sleep paralysis, and have had them throughout my life. During an episode of SP, it is absolutely terrifying as your mind is caught between a state of sleep, and a state of awareness. During this "middle plane" where your body is still asleep and unable to move but your mind is conscious and aware, people often report strange experiences, noises, and feelings that are often thought to be direct encounters with paranormal beings or even alien entitys, by both the people themselves & scientists alike.

Anyways, I always experience a very loud buzzing and pulsing noises that sound like some kind of machine or generator, as well as live wires that are emanating an electronic current through my body and my ears. During this state, I sometimes hallucinate or see and/or experience very weird and unexplainable things, but they feel extremely real. In fact, sometimes I am convinced that they actually ARE real.

    My scary experience

About 2 months ago I had an episode in the middle of the night that had all the usual symptoms, and so I tried to just not panic and regain control of my mind so that my body could awaken and snap out of it. But I had the most unnerving feeling of some sort of "presence", like I was not alone in the room. I remember switching my attention to my bedside, and although I could not turn my my head completely to look, my head was cocked to the side facing my desk and TV and I could see a row of figures standing beside my bed. Just these big, black, shadowy figures that did not have any noticable features, they were just about the same size and shape as human people except they were all just like a thick, black essence. It scared the living shit out of me and I remember feeling my heart speed up and hearing it pounding in my ears as I could do nothing but stare at these "people" and pray to god I woke up. The moment felt like it lasted forever, although it was probably only a few seconds, the image is burned into my mind.

By far the most eerie, spine-chilling part of the whole experience was how these figures did absolutely nothing during this whole time. They just stood there towering over where I lay, and they just stared at me. And it felt like they had been watching me for awhile already and possibly weren't even aware that I was able to see them. I was scared shitless about the experience and had a very hard time falling back asleep afterwards. I also told my parents the next morning and my Dad seemed a bit skeptical about it (probably thought I was just on drugs again lol), but my Mom believed me.

I know it sounds like bullshit, but I swear to god it was just as real as anything else I have ever known. I have been dreading the next time I see these shadow figures again, and I've had small episodes of SP since, but that was the only time I saw them.

There is a logical explanation for everything. Ghosts are not an explanation. Nobody said aliens exist either, but there seems to be a lot more "proof" of aliens that ghosts.

Ghost stories are like "omg I saw this and this and this." Alien stories are like "We've had fifteen people call the cops because there's lights in the sky." Which seems more credible? One person, or a police report that twenty plus people called in seeing the same thing?

Basically, can you name something that exists even though there's no proof of it's existence? No. Why is it any different with ghosts?

Yeah I've never had sleep paralysis (though I want to, because apparently you're GOING to have one if you ever want to lucid dream) but I hear so many scary things about it, such as "the old hag" that visits you and like, which sounds like your 'shadow figures'. Scary shit.

I don't know. Experience something paranormal yourself and find out why. "You won't believe it until you see it for yourself."

I'm not even a believer of ghosts, but based on certain experiences I keep an open mind to certain things.

I never said I was reluctant to change my opinion. I actually welcome the opportunity to see something that would undoubtedly prove their existence to me. But until then, as far as I'm concerned, they do not exist.

What if you experience something that does not indefinitely prove the existence of an other-worldly entity, but is clearly not rational. You wouldn't be able to label it as 'ghost' but what else could you do considering it may be similar to many other stories/experiences people have had where they claim to have seen a ghost?

Well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it as my answer would be purely circumstantial.

Yeah, sleep paralysis seems to go hand in hand with any kind of deeper sleep experience like lucid dreaming, astral projecting etc etc. All which I have been able to do at times, and had some experiences with :) I have never been a great sleeper though - it seems like my body has troubles achieving its REM cycle sometimes, or I seem to be easily disrupted when I am in my REM cycle, which is probably how I often end up in that "middle plane" state of consciousness so often haha.

Its really cool shit though. If you are interested in lucid dreaming, I would highly reccomend going and reading about it and getting some exercise tapes to listen to as you lie in bed. There are a number of ways to train yourself to put your body to sleep but keeping your mind aware, as well as many tricks to use in dreams to trigger a period of lucidity or to stay inside the dream once you realize you are dreaming and your body naturally tries to rouse itself from sleep.

Yeah I've read upon the subject. I'm honestly way too lazy to do things such as wake up in the middle of the night and record the dream I was just having :p

But astral projecting/OBE's is one of the top things I want to do while I am alive.

My first OBE was completely accidental, and happened once again while I was asleep. I immediately told all my friends the next day though and got my whole circle of friends into lucid dreaming/astral projecting for a few months :p I was also able to talk to my uncle about it too because he had an OBE when he was in a car accident.

You can definitely teach yourself to do it, but its much, much harder than lucid dreaming and can take months or even years to do it again. I've never been able to do it on purpose, but have had another 4 or 5 experiences with the astral plane ever since that first one so many years ago.

Just something funny - One of my OBE's happened when I was on my grad trip to Cancun and was taking a nap in my hotel room with my girlfriend lol. Such a random time for it to happen.

Yeah I've experienced some things with sleep paralysis, and I've also had lucid dreams and have been successful at astral projection once. I feel like you interact with souls in their afterlife (yeah, ghosts) during astral projection. I believe in ghosts more than a god, but I digress...

My friends house that I stay at when his moms out of town is very creepy at times. Always hear footsteps upstairs & doors being shut when everyone is in the room. Strange things happen every night that i have stayed there, but I'm not saying it's ghosts or not.

I've heard plenty of stories but never experienced anything, personally I don't believe in any of that stuff but to each his own.
