Quitting Your Job And Pursuing Your Dream

Should people do it? I somewhat recently have done it and am the happiest I've ever been in my entire life and loving every single minute of it. Should people quit their job if they're able to make more money elsewhere and love what they're doing?

Depends on what you want more. Money or happiness.

I'd honestly only suggest doing so if you're either 1) able to sustain hardship, or 2) relatively financially stable/well off.

It's easy to fall into this pessimistic trap.

In my opinion it's only worth doing when you're earning a good amount outside of your job, and are willing to return to your job if the risk doesn't pay off.

Many people fall into this trap and start impulsively hating their job, when in reality it's not even that bad. You should see your job as a temporary tool for money which can be used to invest in your new life.

You should only do it if you're willing to develop yourself and improve yourself to adapt to a more successful lifestyle, not as an excuse to be lazy and just get by. That's not what life is about.

You spend the majority of your waking life working, if there's something you enjoy which is feasable to do from a financial perspective then do it. People pay good money to be entertained, if thats a free perk of your job then your one a lucky few.

I think people should do what they want, but "quitting your job and pursuing your dream" can also be extremely irresponsible. If you're the only one effected, I do not see a problem with it. If you're bailing on other people you've promised to support (i.e. Children), then I think it is quite problematic.

Not counting even if you are on your own, you still need to provide for yourself and your basic necessities.

Quitting Your Job And Pursuing Your Dream

Using my personal situation, money isn't an issue. I have enough money to live a decent life and will still be making more money annually than by using my degrees and working for a company. I didn't hate my job, I just didn't love it. I spent every day looking at the clock waiting for the day to be over. If I love what I'm doing now and making more money, why not quit my job and pursue what makes me happy?

If you want to increase your chances of being homeless, sure I guess. 70% of U.S. employees hate their job. I'm content with hating my job as long as I'm getting paid.

I usually pretend I don't hate my jobs and that goes pretty well. I just aim to be the best at what I do so that there's a challenge and a reason to stay other than money. I almost chose a nuclear field job in the military just for the boatloads of cash, but I definitely would want to quit and you can't exactly do that in the military.

Happiness > money, as long as you can pay the bills still and are content with the amount of extra money you do or don't have.

In reality, most people don't have this choice. So if you do, go for it tbh. Just make sure it won't be ruining the next few years of your life if you go under unexpectedly.

I don't think your situation truly applies to the question you're asking because your situation is a win-win; not only are you doing what you love, but you're being paid more than at your other job (or so that's what I've understood from your statement.)

If we're talking about being paid less, than the only concern would be your future and if you're stable enough to do so financially.

Always have a plan B. If you quit your job to pursue something you can't get then you might place yourself in a very bad situation.

Ex: Want a job at Microsoft but you're working at McDonalds?
Well go to interviews and train on your free and keep your job at McDonalds because you have no guarantee to even get the job. So.. always play safe!

Yea, I wouldn't ever quit without a backup plan. I would allow myself to have the extra income and calculate expenses meanwhile before I would quit my current job.

This girl i used to be real close with in school stopped all education related stuff. Didn't bother with uni/apprenticeships/further degrees... went straight into photography ( she has a genuine passion for photography )

Very quiet girl, didnt have any connections.

3 years down the line she's now a photographer for a magazine company, she does free lance work and also makes some money doing shoots. She's managed to get from nowhere to somewhere special doing what she likes

Also travels the globe for shoots/ fashion shoots ....

So in general do what you love, I know enough people who have come out from Uni and haven't landed themselves a job.

Do what you love always! Be a dream chaser
