    Question about my future.

Hello Sythe, i need some real advice. Im about to start my sophomore year in high school this August. I have no idea what i want to do with my life. I have no idea want i want to be once i graduate college. My grades for freshman year is 3.5, 3.3, 3.3, 3.3 with a 3.1 for the year. Will those grades let me get into college. Im going to try a lot harder next year. During freshman year i also played Baseball and Track and did spring football. What other extra curriclular activites would help me get into a better school?

Im pretty good with computers and technology. What kind of job could i get with like minor knowledge? I mean like i don't know how to program or make scripts or anything like that but i can remove a virus like nothing and when theirs a problem with my comp i can usually fix it, not like hardware but like internet down, files missing and etc. I play runescape only at night when i bot.

Im in real need of advice here people. Thanks in advance,
    Hunter

    Question about my future.

If you like computers and games then start to do some easy game programming. You can start at a total beginers. I started by buying a Flash for Dummies book lol and from that ive got a whole new hobby and something to go towards my career just incase president of the world doesnt work out ;)

    Question about my future.

I was exactly like you, to be honest. If I can make my own assumptions, you're kind of floating averagely, with no real goal in mind.

I'm Australian, and I finished Grade 10, thought hard and long about what I wanted to do and decided I'd start an Electrical Apprenticeship.

From there, I can go into Oil/Mining. The money is always there, and work is always available in the Domestic and Commercial sense. I start at 6:30 in the morning, and finish at 2:30, leaving plenty of time for my computer hobbies.

If you think an apprenticeship is for dumbshits, you're generally wrong and as I said earlier, they can lead into a ton of job areas. If you've got the work ethic and attitude, it's easy.

Alternatively, if you don't want to consider manual labor, start putting in the hard yards. Grab some books, read tutorials online regarding your hobbies or skills. Grow on them, study TAFE courses, start cold-canvassing companies that specialize in game creation or similar.
You're going to have to admit that you'll be rejected now and then, or alot of the time.
If you don't have a job, go out and get one. It looks good on your resume. College isn't the only way to land the high-flying jobs or good money earners.

Work hard, and keep at it.

    Question about my future.

don't you think there is probably somebody at your school such as a guidance counselor who's exact job is to give you the advice you are looking for here? most people on this site don't even know what college is so you would probably be much better off asking your guidance counselor.

    Question about my future.

There are many computer fields you can get into that don't involve programming. You should sign up for some of the non-programming computer courses and see which ones you like.

If you don't want to do programming, go into Networking.

It has some codes and such but its not really all that difficult.

    Question about my future.

I didn't know what I wanted to do until getting into college. Everything changes when you're looking at the absolute essential classes you need to pursue your desired career. Of course, highschool classes are essential, but most don't really get just how important these classes are until you're actually paying for them in some god-forsaken community college, trying to make up what you lost in school. Of course, according to the next quote, you're not doing half bad!

These are very good grades if you're looking for any single mediocre career; most average, well paid career; and actually a good amount of high-end careers. A 3.3 average isn't honors in the USA (don't know if that's where you're from, but...) but it still gets you noticed by a lot of schools, and even by a lot of grants. If you can manage to get up to 3.5 and graduate with honors, it opens doors to a ton of grants who are generally excited to give you money for college.

Extracurricular activities also look great on college applications. Sports are another good way to pay your way into colleges.

It isn't so much the extracurricular activities that make-or-break your admittance into a college, but if you do a lot of community service, it opens doors to grants, and colleges may also notice how much of a good worker you are. One thing to keep in mind is; the major catalyst to which applications are accepted or denies is the likely-hood that you will graduate from their school, and make something of yourself. If you find extracurricular activities that show how good of a worker you are, colleges may notice you have a better chance than the last applicant. They WANT you to succeed because it looks good for them, in the long run.

Computer skills are easy to acquire, and if that's what you're interested in building your career off of, it's as simple as knowing the basics, and learning a few languages or graphic programs. There is a high demand in things like video game designing, so if you learned a bit of 3D modeling, or coding, or stuff like that, there's a high chance you'll find a suitable career. you can also go into criminal justice with computer knowledge. They have cyber-security (which you might be good at, if you are good at rooting out viruses) and all sorts of shit like that.

    /wall'o'text

Good luck with your highschool classes, and with your future success in college! :]

Join the Geek Squad. All you have to know how to do is plug in wires and try to sell people shit.

    May include minor computer knowledge.

    Question about my future.

A majority of people don't know what they want to do in college. They say High School is exploration, but your first two years in college is where you truly explore what you want your major to be.

Be a Network Technician if you like doing the aforementioned stuff.

    Question about my future.

Unless you're in a high-budget district, there isn't TOO MUCH you can take in highschool that is specifically designed to educate people in beta testing or game design.

I suggest things like keyboarding (it REALLY helps to be awesome with the keyboard, it makes things go faster, like writing a programming code, or even using shortcuts), computer basics, math and science is a big thing as well. Math knowledge helps you with managing and creating equations you need to make video games realistic. Examples include correct gravity simulations; terminal velocity; trajectory for bows and arrows, or even sniper bullets; and force (all of these are really nicely showcased in Orange Box: Portal, if you've ever played it. Physics was a HUGE part of that game)

English also helps. EVERY career looks for someone who's apt in english, and having a larger vocabulary really helps you understand more.

Of course, along with all of these essential classes-- for game design-- you'd also need stuff like fine-art classes, and other stuff like that to develop creativity.
