Quick question about my IP and forums

Hey guys, I would post this in Tech Support, but it seems people hardly ever go there...

Anyway, on a particular forum I registered on, I decided to make a second account, and later found out that multi accounts is an auto permanent ban...

So I went to whatismyip.org, checked my IP, disconnected my modem, reconnected, and checked again and it said that my IP was different.

So, if I were to register again on that forum, they wouldn't know that it's me, right?

(It's not like I'm there to hack or anything, all I did was make 2 accounts...)

So they're still going to know it's me? Changing my IP won't help?

Quick question about my IP and forums

They will still know it's you, the IPs will be very similar. Why do you want to make two accounts anyways?

Well if you would have read the rules when you joined like you're supposed to that wouldn't have happened.

I know... but I feel like it's a pretty stupid reason to permanently ban you, though.

Quick question about my IP and forums

ip's are the same for each computer. And all of them are searchable. So Your old ip and new one would show very close locations.. i.e. your house.

Quick question about my IP and forums

You can ask an admin for a second chance and explain what happened, I doubt they will compare your new IP with the banned accounts though unless you admit you own them.

Quick question about my IP and forums

Well, I'm just not sure what address they are looking at... I don't know much about IP addresses, but I do know that if I go to an IP address site, that number is different from the number I get if I go to command prompt and enter ipconfig. The command prompt one never changes for me, but the website one does...

Quick question about my IP and forums

Yeah, if you really want to all I would think of doing is using a proxy..or atleast using a proxy to create the account and then using it like regular after. If you only have 1 un-ban account they prob. wouln't have any problem with it..they might consider it ban evading though.

Quick question about my IP and forums

Not necessarily. My IP address changes every day which results in completely different cities showing up in an IP track.

As Tyro said, you probably won't get caught as long as you do not draw attention to yourself(i.e applying for moderator).

Quick question about my IP and forums

If you have a router ipconfig is probably just displaying your internal IP, which differs from your external IP that the admins on the site can see. Anything that starts with 192 or 255 that shows up when you type that isn't your IP, such as 192.168.1.1 or 255.0.0.0.
