PSA: on staking accounts & RWT bans

This is just a PSA on staking related RWT in osrs, it looks like as of recently Jagex is cracking down on these accounts and the ban rate is increasing tremendously, there also seems to be an automatic-instant ban element to these bans.

The threads above are only the ones I'm aware of on Sythe - the affects of this are likely way more widespread than only Sythe users.


Does anyone have any theories as to why this might be? My theory is Jagex are going to eventually get rid of the duel arena, this year. There have been a lot of rumours in the past and Mod Ash especially on twitter mentioned something about assessing the ratio of players to RWTers in the duel arena and it's something that their team is looking into. So, this is an interim-solution to the larger problem of the duel arena in-game.


That's my theory, what do you think?

6 out of my 11 stakers got banned within 24-48 hours.

Can confirm that 2 of my staker rentals got banned, most likely jagex is banning accounts that do a lot of stakes on different ip adresses and transfer a lot of money. Would not rent a staker and not rent out stakers until this has calmed down.

 

Really appreciate the PSA @Ardinas I have spoken to a few websites I have a good rapport with and also some staking clans. It's all the same. I myself had 4 Max Melee / Stakers banned. 3 rentals and one personal.

 

From my understanding Mod Ash has done some research and from his 'data-gathering' can now successfully determine which players are 'illegitimate' within the duel arena. I would assume this is a combination of variables which, if exceeded will result in an automatic ban.

We've had a couple dozen or so bans the last few weeks.
AFAIK they are targetting account sales, and accounts with only has game activity in the duel arena.

The best solution to this is to hand train your accounts, don't use a fake login email, don't change the registered email.
You also need to have legitimate account progression outside of the duel arena.

 

I think after gathering the data, they realised that they have a way to distingush between the 'legit' players and the 'dodgy ones' so rather than implementating game changes that affect the legit players - they realised they had all the tools necessary to remove all the dodgy players from the game altogether, so have now added automatic ban criteria to enforce this. (Didn't explain this well in my last post)

On the bright side this hopefully means they will not need to make any changes / remove the duel arena, but may also make staking rentals near-impossible as well as increased difficulty for staking clans.

 

This is a good assessment in my opinion and rounds it up nicely. We will see where the bans go from now. If this is sustained for a long period of time, or is just a temporary measure, only time will tell I guess.

I say this because, from my understanding the OSRS team mostly don't offer a one and done approach to stuff like this and they will monitor the bans and effects of the bans for a period of time. I could be reading too much into it, but that's how it looks to me.

 

sold 7-9k worth of gold before my staker got banned then sold 200m on my muler and got banned (had diff ip for the muler) so.. no idea
