Mountain Dew is Orange Juice

Ingredients on a can of Mountain Dew:

Carbonated water, sugar, concentrated orange juice.

I was shocked when I found out.

Was anyone else?

Yup. Main ingredient after sugar and water is orange juice. Nothing else cept some weird chemicals and coloring.

The additional flavourings and colourings have been added to change it from orange juice, that's rather surprising.

Point of clarification : Joe Conaghan, Ph.D of the Pacific Fertility Center commented that there is no scientific evidence that proves Yellow 5 is harmful to sperm. It is a stable chemical and nontoxic. In other words, the dye has no effect on your fertility.

Yellow Dye No. 5 carries another name which is tartrazine. It is a common coloring dye found in food, drugs, and cosmetics, giving the finished products a bright lemon yellow color. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has certified it to be safe for use.

The industry has been using tartrazine as early as 1916. If it is true it can lower sperm count, then probably by now the FDA should ban it.

The FDA has approved the acceptable daily intake [ADI] for tartrazine is 5.0 milligrams per kilogram of body weight per day. Mountain Dew doesn't contain a large quantity of Yellow Dye No. 5 compared with other food.

As for the orange fact, guess that what helps make the citrus taste so enjoyable. Go figure you learn something new each day time to tell my friends as see how many know this random fact.

 

Well that's wonderful. Ill drink Mountain Dew next time I feel like having two drinks at once

 

1) I have a bottle right next to me, orange juice isn't included in the ingredients

2) If it does contain OJ, the amounts will be miniscule.

3) Why is this a problem in the first place, there's not much to be shocked about

Im guessing the UK version is different to the US version then, because my bottle said 'Mountain Dew' not Mtn & i wonder if the taste is different..

 

46g isn't that much nowadays. Coke has over 50g, as well as some other soft drinks.

It says MTN and Mountain dew in usa also.
