    Privacy - Does it exist?

Neither the U.S. Constitution, nor most state Constitutions, mention a specific right to privacy. Does a right to privacy exist? How does one define privacy? What legal ramifications do privacy entail? Is there ever legitimate reason to sacrifice privacy for the "greater good?" (Patriot Act)

I'm not looking for the basic silly answers - "Yes, it does exist because I enjoy it, or need it, or "just cause". If your response does not answer most of the questions I posted above, it does not completely answer the question.

Uhh yes the Constitution DOES give you the right to privacy. What do you think search and seizure means? The 4th Amendment was made to make sure something like the Writs of Assistance the colonists had to deal with never happened again. The Patriot is an abomination. I don't understand your thought process at all. You say privacy isn't granted in the Constitution (it is), yet you think things like the Patriot Act can be passed. Where does the Constitution allow the Patriot Act? If ANYTHING, a piece of legislation like the Patriot Act would need to be passed through the states. 10th Amendment says powers not specifically granted to the federal govt go to the states. It's pretty clear...

No. There is no "greater good." Educate yourself.

What a stupid thread, privacy obviously exists weather it be talked about or not.

"I want to be in my room with my door locked so nobody else can come in" That would be privacy. I don't know if you have the rights to do that living under your parents, until you are at least 18. >____>

Your extrapolation of the 4th amendment is up to interpretation is it not? Does it mention "privacy" specifically? If not, it's definition cannot hold without higher judgement.

I am educated. A question was posed with a legitimate concern, where it may be mine or not.

What a stupid fellow, who clearly has not read the thread.
