Recently, i saw a television programme on people with down syndrome. They are unable to take care of themselves and have no awareness about their surroundings.

Is abandoning them morally wrong? What are your views/opinions.

If they can not take care of them selves i think it is totally wrong to abandon them. It would be better to give them to someone else to take care of them. Like a place that deals with those kind of syndromes.

I do not think these individuals deserve a place in our society if they are nothing more than a burden on those around them.

It's basically like having an expensive pet. You gotta feed it, watch it, bathe it, and take it to the bathroom. If the people who gave birth to the child cannot take responsibility and care for the child for the rest of his life despite his illness, the child should either be euthanized, put in a laboratory to be studied, or put into a home of some sort that would be financially supported 100% by the family of the patients, specifically the ones that were against the first two options.

I agree with the first 2 choices, people are going to financially support them through guilt though which will make you lose tons of money.

I agree with the first 2 options.

A child like this that has no value to society shouldn't have been allowed through the birthing process in the first place. I've explained this point the the abortion topic but it just seems like we take to much pity on this kind of situation.

If a child is going to be completely unable to provide any aid and depend entirely on everyone else for all of the basic needs then giving birth to them was a mistake in the beginning. I understand the parents want a child and were supposed to treat everyone equally but what kind of efficient additions to human society do these people create? Absolutely none. While there are exceptions they ultimately prove the fact since they themselves were contributing.

Think of it this way people, what would you do if a dog was going to be born sick and unable to anything by itself? Now replace dog with child and if we leave the situation the same what should be the outcome?

A child /= dog though. I do see how some people would think like this, I strongly agree with supporting the child, as it is your own.

Honestly though, if I was in a situation like that I don't know what I would do.

A child is a child and i would say they have as much right to live as any of us do.
A burden yes, but is it THEIR fault?. Is it their fault your x and y chromosomes are messed up creating genetic defects?. The people responsible for giving life to them should be responsible.

Every human being deserves attention and care, if you give birth to a child you are responsible for it. It's a selfish thing to do to abandon the child, and it's obviously morally wrong. It's not their fault.

Of course it's wrong, according to Confuscious.
Depends on how you look at it, I guess.

I would say that it's wrong,
you would abandon a person when he or she is overburdening you.
However, in this case, the person is one who needs help.

Abandoning a family member who needs help, just because he or she is overburdening you?
I don't see any good in that.
