RS Reverse Lookup

I was bored when trying to sell an account of mine a while back and decided to make something that would allow me to input a player's stats and get a username in return... essentially, a reverse lookup for RuneScape.

It is currently an Android app and may be expanded to a PC app as well, but it is fully functional and I've double-checked by PMing sellers on the forum and surprising them with their name

Any suggestions or tips? I don't know what else to add. It is near impossible to have a broader range of overalls when doing a lookup because Jagex blocks you if you flood their servers (and I doubt you want to wait hours for a result).

It works by checking pages and pages of accounts and looking each one up individually, then returning a list of best possible matches.

"Sketchy app?" Why? Because nobody has downloaded it yet?

There is nothing "sketchy" about this app. Granted, there is no merit when I say it myself nor when you do, so I'll wait for someone who is actually intelligent in the area of computers and programming to comment.

Look at the permissions of the app listed in the marketplace, run it in an emulator, or anything - and you'll see so yourself.

 

What would the benefit of this be?

 

For people buying accounts and the person blacked out the user but left all the stats unblocked.

people leave their names and whatnot covered to make the account more secure so people cant report and present proof of them RWT'ing this app bypassing that has NO legitimate use i can fathom whatsoever .. the name of an account is not needed when it is being sold for its statistical value .. why anyone would be wanting this at all is beyond me. if its legit good work i guess ?

 

I'm pretty sure Jagex has a system or program to do this themselves.

Basically, it could be useful for people who want to see information such as covered stats, quests completed, highscores rank, etc.

Jagex is capable of finding your RS account if you show a picture that shows more than 5 unique skills (if you're all 99, wgaf, so many lvl 99s, etc). So, theoretically, you could do the same with a program.

Correct, apart from being a fun little toy it can be used to get a name of accounts being sold on the market. It doesn't help Jagex at all because they can do it directly from their database and I'm sure they've done it before. It helps the buyer because it can validate claims of original/unique names, or give them a more in-depth look at stats that were originally blacked out (given the overall, of course).

It is not in the Apple app store, it is in the Android Play Store (market).

Wouldn't you need the xp of the skill you are looking up? You couldn't go by only the level.

But your answer was wrong You can definitely go by only levels, unless you're saying to look up an account using one skill with a given XP (which is eh, considering XP changes so easily).

Nope. It appears that way, but there really isn't. There's so many possible options for one overall that having a bunch with the same exact stats doesn't happen often. Even if it did, this app shows the top 5 matches.

 

If I blacked out some skills, I did it for a reason. I don't need random people to know what account I'm selling. The only person who needs to know all information is the buyer.

If Jagex can do this in a much more precise matter, than what's the big deal with him releasing such a app? There's physically no need to bash him; I'll give it a go

 

This could be used to sellers advantage. If they wanted to black out a few stats, they could check which ones they could cover without the app showing the name of the account in the results.

 

This app would be useless. No one on runescape has different stats than everyone else. There is bound to be more than 100 people who has the exact same stats as yourself.

 

If you blacked out some stats, and your account can still be matched, then you were doing it wrong anyway. So really, you're welcome.
