I personally think that this is a great trade for LA, the Lakers are looking deadly right now, and the western conference is stacked! Mitch is an incredible GM, getting Pau, Nash, and Dwight. Also, I don't know how looking like the Heat is a bad thing, they're a great team, and are the favorites to win the championship. By the way, Bynum is not a bigger threat than Dwight on offense. Dwight is better, it's not a huge difference, but he still is better. But, the main difference is his defense, there is a reason he won Defense Player of the Year three times in a row. It's interesting knowing when Kobe will retire that Dwight will lead the team, it seems like the Lakers can never be "bad." But, regardless of these improvements, I don't think they can beat the heat. Right now, nobody can stop LeBron, he is undoubtedly the best basketball player in the world right now. I still think that the Lakers will be formidable opponents, they have a good chance in beating OKC, who will probably reach the WCF. Anyway, I'm so pumped for this season, I can't forget!

Same! Also, don't forget Chandler, he's as important to the Knicks as Melo and Amare.

Fuck the NBA, the same few teams have a chance of actually winning. Why the hell would I bother watching a my home team (Raptors) when I know my odds of winning the lottery are better than the Raptors winning. Dozens of teams are in the same boat, something needs to be done to make the league more fair, at the moment its like watching US olympic basketball: unless you're cheering for the US (Laker/Heat equivalent) you really have no reason to watch.

I was pissed when the Heat did this, now the Lakers. It goes to show you that if you have the money you can buy a team and if you don't you have little chance.

    /end rant

Not really, there's a reason that a team with a lower winning percentage gets the first pick in the NBA draft. Besides, before 2010, the Heat were an average team, they prepared itself for the free agency. The Lakers got Dwight over a four team trade, and before this, the Lakers didn't even pass round two of the playoffs. There is nothing wrong with this. I mean, look at OKC, they drafted four of their main players, and now Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden are all on the USA Olympic team, and Serge Ibaka is the Spain Olympic team. In the future, there will be a change of the winning teams when they start losing, and other teams start winning. It's pretty much the cycle of the NBA.

Yes, the draft is a good system but its only a temporary solution. These small market teams spend years rebuilding only to have a short window to win a championship. Once their star players become free agents, they sign with whoever the current contenders are (atm whoever has the most money). Its nearly impossible for the small market teams to attract "talent" let alone afford it, because face it, who wants to play for a bad team with freezing climate over instant contenders and great weather like in Miami and LA. Right now it seems like the winning strategy is buying a winning team rather than drafting one.

This is just my rationale for why I personally don't watch basketball, don't wanna start a debate or anything :)

Money isn't everything, the Knicks have the most money in the entire league, and they haven't won a championship for years. The heat aren't even a team that has a lot of money. Don't you think when a team is winning, the free agent wants to go to that team, I don't think it's a small window. The Heat were terrible before drafting Dwayne Wade, now they've gotten much better. It's not just money. Also, other teams will have fair shots at the title eventually, do you think the Heat will win the championship 8 years from now? By then, Anthony Davis would have improved and might lead the Hornets to an NBA championship.

Haha easier said then done, the only NBA games I get on TV are raptors games or highly anticipated games. I could cheer for another team but watching them would be pretty difficult.

Even though the Knicks haven't won in years, you always hear free agents saying "I'll only be traded to winning team A, winning team B, or the Knicks". It seems like the top talent players only want to play for popular teams like the Knicks or instant contenders.

Problem is, whose to say that Davis doesn't abandon ship if things don't go right with the Hornets? He could easily pull a lebron and bail on the team in order to go to a contender once his contracts up.

Personally I think a hard salary cap is the solution. Luxury tax isn't slowing down some of these teams. The Lakers are likely paying around the same in Luxury tax as some teams' payrolls (not sure if this true, but its probably close)! That or some sort of solution which forces teams in the direction of drafting a winning team rather than going all out and buying a winning team like the Heat/Lakers are doing.

Either way, Lakers/Heat final should be pretty entertaining.

Honestly, I've never heard that many free agents saying they would want to be part of the Knicks. We had interest in LeBron, but he choose the heat instead. Not entirely, I mean, James Harden shows interest in playing for the Suns, but they are nowhere near championship contender level.

But, you can't say that he will. The previous season before Michael Jordan was drafted, this was the Chicago Bulls' record: 27 wins, 55 losses. He stayed with them until his first retirement.

Honestly, if there was a strict salary cap, that might lower teams chances; they can't afford players, might go over the cap, etc.

And, I agree with you, I can't wait (if that is the final).

I agree. The NBA currently consists of a few power teams, and other teams that are completely irrelevant and have no chance in winning a championship.

OT: I am a Knicks fan, but Dwight Howard is my favorite player. I am extremely dissapointed he was traded to LA. Would of perferred Brooklyn. However, it was a good move for LA and puts them back on top in the West.

Great trade for all teams in the trade besides Orlando, I love this move for the Lakers as they are contenders and will most likely get through the second round this year, I think this trade puts them over OKC as the team to beat.

Actually, his offensive ability is almost as close as Howard's. The only major difference is the defensive ability of Dwight, he didn't win the Defensive Player of the Year three times in a row for nothing.

Yeah, it wasn't a good trade on Orlando's part, they should have taken the rockets offer. Also, It'll be really hard for the Lakers to make the finals this year, especially beating OKC with their dynamic trio, even if they do, I doubt they could beat the Miami Heat. You need to build chemistry, remember what happened to the Heat during their first year, they got defeated by Mavericks, who arguably had more chemistry. That's why I think they have a better chance beating the Heat in the 2013-14 season. But, still, they have a good chance, and I can't wait for the upcoming season.

Sound's more like Kobe than Bynum.

I liked this trade because it will give OKC a bigger challenge in the west, I still think OKC is winning the west for another OKC/MIA finals.

I personally love this trade just for the sole reason of a OKC vs Lakers match up, the question is will they all be able to work together or will it take one or two years for things to start falling into place.

Exactly, people already say "Lakers 2013 NBA champions," but that's way too soon to tell. Like I said, it took the Heat one year to win an NBA title, you need to develop chemistry, you can't win on talent alone. That's why I think either the Heat or OKC will win this year, but I still think the Lakers are going to be really good, and I wouldn't be surprised if they made the WCFs or the finals.
