I need some free(Dirty or not) advertising methods

Hello,

I've recently opened up a forum and i'm doing my best to get it out there asap.

I've gotten friends to join, etc and it's coming along swimmingly.

I'm JUST starting to get randoms to join which is great considering it's only a few days old.

I've had forums open before but were never successful until a few months had passed. I'm hoping to change things this time and really get the ball rolling considering I spend all day managing it.

I need some tips, the forum is rather full with interesting posts atm and discussions so phase one is complete. Now I need to enter what I call the "chump phase" where I get a few new signups daily and find some random chumps on the internet who die off eventually.


Anyone have any ideas how to further promote a forum and get the ball rolling quickly? I've gotten a ton of hits through twitter and i'm reading social networking marketing books to get this pushed.


I know sythe probably isn't the place to ask for webmastering and advertising advice, but still i'd like to see opinions from you guys.

First of all making me admin would attract a lot of people.

But if you want a good way to advertise just make a random account and start spamming thread on all random websites.

Maybe make a signature and post to join in the spam forum?

 

Spamming on random websites does not make your website any more popular. People rather start to hate it.

You should put your website in your signature on all of your forum accounts, post frequently there, etc. It's a much more respectable way to advertise than making a thread. You can also pay others to put it in their signatures.

You might also wanna organize your forum categories a bit more. A little messy at the moment.

And the reason Sythe is popular is because of the market. You'll also need something similar to keep the traffic rolling. I'm not sure what the forum really is for, but that's up to you.

 

Terrible marketing ploys. Businesses and websites need an image. If I did that then sure, i'd get a few cheap signups but it'd die quickly. Anyone with the idiocy to do that will fail as a site administrator.

Meh, I agree I should have it in my sig but i'm looking at the big picture. Not just a few cheesy signups but more or less as a way to get things rolling site-wise.


Also, I'm not trying to make it anything like sythe with the markets, etc. The market was just in demand so I made a small section to attract visitors for now.

Recall that just because sythe/runescape sites have an attractive market doesn't mean I want to follow that path.

There are PLENTY of other forums without that.


Oh, and I won't be implementing anything runescape / WoW related anytime soon either ;P. I can't stand those sections of this website. Quite frankly I only come here for the UE / OT / Community general discussion.

It's essentially one of the fastest ways to promote your forum.
