Polygamy?

Is polygamy (having multiple spouses) OK? Why? Why not?

 

If all involved are happy with it, why wouldn't it be?

 

I have to agree, it is like same sex marriage. If everyone is agreeable and happy, then why would it not be allowed?

 

Even though I support both gay marriage and polygamy, I balk at the comparison. Homosexuality is chemical, polygamy is cultural.

 

Chemical? Please show me this. Not saying you are wrong, but there is a lot of debate on this and I would just like to see your source of information.

 

The only issues I see with polygamy are practical (since all of our laws assume two people marriages). Once you get past that, I honestly do not care. Why should I? I'm not the one getting married to more than one person.

 

Huh? You're saying that chemistry affects sexual orientation but doesn't affect the number of sexual partners a person wants? Seems dubious.

Culture plays a role in both but I would have to say that culture plays a much larger role in what people define as marriage as that is essentially a societal construct of organization, not who you want to fuck.

I was just using an analogy as to how I feel about marriage. If both parties are happy then why not? I don't see why you have to automatically think that it is something deeper than that? We are talking about marriage as an institution and not relationships as a feeling.

requires a high level of emotional maturity for it to be successful.... most polygamous relations in Babylon typically results in emotional drama, jealousy, etc.... so long as everyone is benefiting, it works out.... it's more about sexual freedom in my experience, releasing emotional attachments or jealousy and letting people be free to do as they choose... there are tons of tribal societies which have existed where having multiple wives is common practice, or other societal models such as a matriarchy which was woman dominated rather than male dominated.... even some societies where women are shared freely or sex is completely open.

If you just want a bunch of wives you better be hardcore alpha-male prepared to provide to multiple women in multiple ways, otherwise these women will not stick around, and will probably have relationships with other men anyway given that this is just how it is...... if your emotional attachments create jealousy or anger you probably aren't ready for it... otherwise shit will go south... some guys just buy women with money which is one form of power, this will attract primarily superficial women with greed, though this will likely leave you unfulfilled in the end...... my advice would be to avoid the money factor and focus more on what has substance...., what creates meaning in your life, and what will honor those qualities....

Just appreciate what you have and let life flow naturally towards you.....

There is nothing wrong with polygamy. The only argument anyone ever provides is, "The men only want more sex!" That is just plain absurd, no rational man would take on such responsibility for sex.

I have met several polygamist families, and they were all nice, educated, happy families.

 

I'm not a fan personally, but I agree with everyone who said let it be.

I agree with polygamy as long as every party is happy with it. There definitely is places where abuses can occur, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad thing. ( abuses being from my knowledge of FLDS not LDS, religion ) FLDS = cult that separated from Mormon church to practice polygamy.
