Allow People Given Life Imprisonment To Choose The Death Penalty

Should people given life imprisonment be able to choose the death penalty?
(The criminals do not have any chance of parole.)

    Why shouldn't we?
Prisoners are given the maximum amount of rights, which do not influence society and violate safety in the prison in any way. For example, voting is a privelage taken away by prisoners.

Also, the prisoner would want to choose the death penalty because of all the stress he is going through in prison. If he isn't given the right to choose DP, he most likely will start shanking his toothbrush into a sharp angle, or tie some bedsheets and try to hang himself. If a person is to take his own life, shouldn't that be done in the hands of the government, like Euthanasia?

    those are my thoughts.

If someone wants to die, what's wrong with suicide? It's completely voluntary and it doesn't waste tax money.

Right so if I kill your family, get life and instead you seeing me rot in jail for the rest of my life, I can just simply ask for the death penalty? Are you ok with that?

Depends, if they're sick or not. You wouldn't want someone who thinks that they have monsters in their head telling them things to have control over their well being.

I agree, if you have life imprisonment and it has sufficient evidence you should be allowed to die.

Pretty much me chosing to committ a crime that warrants life in prison in an unthoughtout manner which will lead to my arrest and imprisonment is me chosing to live my life in prison. if i did not want to live i would have killed myself prior to, or soon after committing my crime. The choice already exists. If you dont want to live in prison then dont committ the crime, dont get caught, or kill yourself before facing the consiquences. If someone is in the state of mind to kill an entire family but is too cowardly to take their own life then they deserve to rot and get raped untill their day comes. I completely agree with Gohan, just adding some details to back him up.

they are allowed to die. we are just not giving them the privilegde of doing it for them

I don't think you got my point. If someone genuinely wants to die, and they are not constrained or supervised 24/7, they can handle this on their own.

There are plenty of ways one could kill oneself without having to ask permission. A death penalty on the other hand is a long and expensive process after modern procedures and standards. You would need doctors to determine whether or not the criminal is sane enough to make the decision, then you would need to set the thing up with all the bureaucracy and logistical means to set up a modern execution.

As the OP pointed out the alternative is breaking a toothbrush in two, which to me seems like the optimal course of action.

They have imprisonment for a reason, he or she needs to think about the crime that they have committed and suicide would only free them from the guilt that they will endure during their last years at life.

It should be up to the victims family to decide their faith, rather he spends his life in a jail cell or death. It's only fair, an eye for an eye.

Why so vengeful? Punishment for crime is supposed to work as a deterrent, to set an example so that others will be reluctant to do the same thing, and to keep the offender from repeating his crime.

He can't kill himself (eliminating the problem) because you want him to sit there and feel sorry for himself?

Terrible reply. No you're completely seeing the point upside down. He is imprisoned not to feel sorry for himself but to feel sorry for the family that was victimized, and to realize what he has done was wrong.

Putting his life in the victims families hands could scare other people from committing his crime because of the fear of death. Maybe even cause some closure for the family.

Personally, I would be filled with joy if he put a broken toothbrush through his throat and died. That would eliminate the problem. I just don't see the point of having an expensive ceremony for it, as the OP suggesed.

If i murderer was let out of prison proberly 80% of them commit more crimes including murder, so death penalty would put them off

Ok, I have a new argument for you guys to tackle, as an opposition of this topic.

We do indeed give prisoners the maximum amount of rights as long as they do not affect society in any way or violate a prison's safety, but wouldn't we be giving people who committed harsher crimes more rights?

There will be people who went to jail for theft,
a single murder's not getting you a life sentence.

Wouldn't we be giving the person who committed something worse than murder more rights than the person who committed theft?

Not until you come up with an infallible measurement of how serious different crimes are.

Death Penalty is something that SHOULD NOT exist. Reason why there are tons of people who do not deserve the penalty. Life in solitude would be a lot more cruel then instantly killing someone in most people perspectives. What if you find a year later they were innocent as they claimed? Thats one life down the drain. All murderers should be put away for life unless there is some honest good hearted reason behind their action.
