I honestly think it would be fun for a week and then just get either annoying for various reasons (everyone has a pokemon minirank, removing pokemon miniranks from those who don't have all the pokemon and loads of complaints about something not working or not going as planned which takes attention off of more important features) or just plain abandoned once everyone gets bored of it.

I think simple, random games offering miniranks are more suited to Sythe than a feature like this.

 

Well there's only one way to find out if your speculation is correct, let us do it for a month/week etc and then re-poll it and see what people's reactions are.
I'd rather have it with possible glitches/bugs than not have it at all.

 

The only reason miniranks works is because it's not "OK GUISE, BE HERE ON X DATE AT Y TIME, AND COMPETE FOR PRIZEZ", they work because they're something to idly work towards. Being here on holidays, posting in sections, and the occasional post in the sandbox on sythe's "get this card for this rank" threads.

Pokemon minigame would work the same way. Turn it off if you don't want to use it (much like how miniranks can be hidden), post and occasionally participate in standalone prize threads, collect rare 32x32 images (weird, like miniranks), and sell them

It's almost exactly like miniranks, but instead of sucking admin dick and posting in 1:1,000,000 odds threads, you earn them by being regularly active as you would be without this update

 

I just feel it's a lot of work for something that'll more than likely be a novelty that wears off.

Frankly there are way more to-do's/suggestions awaiting implementation that'll be more helpful to Sythe than this.

 

Refuting suggestions on the grounds that "we have better things to do" is an awful attitude


Refuting suggestions on the grounds that there's not enough interest, or it'll die in a month is an equally weak attitude. Is it not said over and over again one shouldn't deny a new section because it might die? Might as well try and let it fail, and chalk it up to a failure THEN, rather than being like "welp idklol itll probs die, better not even give effort"

 

It's not an attitude really, I follow the same "better to try and see before denying" philosophy as well but in this case I'd rather other things were seen to first. Then, when there isn't a list of things that could be done to improve Sythe's usability etc, things like this can be worked on.

 

You're contradicting yourself. You come in saying "it'll be annoying, dead, and no one will like it, i have mor importent thigns to do", and now you're saying "sure better try it after we finish mor impotent thigns"

Like I can't even follow what you're trying to get at, but if you're of the belief "better try before denying", and no one said this should take precedence over the critical updates, there shouldn't be a problem

 

Im not fond of the idea, and those are my opinions of the idea. However, it seems the majority don't share my opinion. So, I don't mind if it's implemented after more important/simple things to better Sythe are done first.

 

While we're talking about more important ideas: I'd say miniranks are basically equally as low on the update-triage as this suggestion is.

The miniranks update was done around March 2013. What else was being done at the exact same time? Sythe Verified Users. Critical. mTweak updates. Important. User Center. Critical.

The only reason miniranks was batched in with those couple of updates was probably because it was a easy to programming the User Center AND miniranks at the same time.

So why can't this be included in the work that's being done on the Sythe Wallet update? It would be a major economic boost to have a currency outlet for site credit. If it can't, fine, but don't knock it because it's not critical enough, or because you think it'll die.

 

Both of these responses are exceedingly vague. What is the "list" of other things that need to be tended to?

I completely agree that issues like site security should be put first, but using it as a blanket statement for denying or delaying multiple good suggestions is unproductive and unclear.

 

I would revamp this so it isn't only pokemon related. I am a huge pokemon fan, but we shouldn't give it such an update. This is too much to add. I'd suggest using characters (including pokemon) from other cartoons that would appear based on your activity. After clicking on them, you're given the opportunity to gain a minirank (of course make the ratio hard). It's pretty simple, fun and reaches to everyone who isn't a pokemon fan.

 

I would delete my thread if it came to that. The suggestion is for pokemon, and all the mechanics I stipulated in the OP would fall apart if you started including other images and tying it in with miniranks

 

I think a feature like this would be extremely awesome and add some fun and spice to the forum. Really would like this put into effect!

 

Am I not entitled to my opinion? I haven't denied this suggestion or shut it down; y'all are going on like I am. I'm not the one that will be implementing or can implement it.

And a list of minor additions and fixes etc - nothing majorly time consuming but still further up the list if y'know what I mean

Cross trading between miniranks and pokemon, mayhaps(?) or that could just be done with the site credit SytheWallet update, whichever
