How Much Longer Do We Have?

With all of the people now a days coming to the marketplace with premade lightrooms & effects, templates and what not. I have noticed the market is slowly dying. How much longer do you think the actual artists have until the market completely dies out. Thoughts on this?

If anybody was wondering, I just got bored and decided to have a little chit chat with the fellow designers here. ^_^

 

Its a phase, just like the phase of people wanting animated banners as signatures, now its shitty 3d text, i like the original, tags, then again i dont do much forum art nowadays as im busy with real life stuff.

 

I contended that the market died out with the advent of text signatures. They require little to no skill and everything can be premade where you just go in and assemble the parts. They don't promote people pushing the envelope because there is nothing to push. There are a few standard effects the everyone does and the only thing that differs among the signatures is the colors and the fonts pretty much. The new trend of layer style fonts is terrible and is even worse than c4d signatures.

Essentially there is no originality left and no one wants original anymore. That was the death of the market. When everyone decided that to be good you had to look like everyone else.

Now I can imagine someone coming onto this thread and say we're whining because we don't get business. I would just like to say that I am no long a part of the market and I haven't been for an extended period of time so I don't care about customers. I just support the community now and it is nearly dead.

 

The basis of graphics is art, people are using as a business venture on sythe, hence the creation of the 3d text craze. The market will flourish as new ideas are put on shitty fonts, but the art aspect has died. Luckily there are other places for art to flourish then sythe.org.

What can you expect?

People want advertising, normal text looks unappealing, so the subsequent solution is... c4d text.

It's what the people want, it looks nice, and it satisfies their needsall in one. Win win win ladies and gentlemen.

 

That is a valid point. It is the commercialized interest in the market that pushes people to create mass market modular pieces - but that is essentially what I was getting at. Art is dead here. That is why I join TF a really great art community that really appreciates passionate people.

I agree with Jiwi. It has an eye appeal to those who haven't seen it. It is a very smart advertising ploy - but from an artist stance it is just abuse.

 

Well a large part of the community here are Rs players and we all know what direction that game is going.

This has been going on for a while actually. Excluding my new IRL commitments, I have been falling behind for a while now because lower pricing brackets are crowded with lots of new artists as opposed to the 4ish artists that offered GFX in around December 2011.
The market is opening up quite a bit and although I've had to pull out anyways, I'm curious as to how the people who are left will react to this.

 

There will always be demand for signatures, no matter how good or bad the artists may think the GFX is that the customers want. There will always be new members, and new members always want a cool signature - not to mention repeat purchasing, the market most certainly wont die. I think what's also an effect is the price of RSGP, people don't want to pay using RSGP because the price is so low these days, making signatures cost 40 and 50M and over 50% of the market aren't old enough to own their own Paypal or IRL$ funding, so RSGP is the only option.

 

To be honest your work is great. Not a lot of people could do what you could do but with designers making it easier and easier for people creating high quality graphics is easier with little to no knowledge.

 

I've been thinking and the market is for graphic design not graphic arts. Arts are for the passionate and those passionate to look at them and enjoy them, designs are to serve a purpose - not necessarily be unique or creative. I guess it is the difference in modeling an engine part in 3D and modeling a game character in 3D.

 

I used to have tag signatures, but text sigs are always gonna be my choice.

 

I don't like how the tag signatures stick out, the transparent text signatures look better on the forums imo. Tags have always looked a bit 'awkward' to me.

 

Market fags (myself included) pretty much all need text signatures.

Yeah I prefer transparency also.

Moon, I know what you mean, unfortunately this won't be a phase. I really respect designers like you, jiwi and especially lvl 75 def recently for experimenting and going for something different and really unique to break away from the stock standard c4d text. (luckydraw & nero haven't been designing so I don't really know about them).

When I decided I would make my signature I knew it would need to be 3d text but that was the least of my concerns, as you know. My vision was a split between the advantages of having a text signature which expresses you as a trader and advertises what you have to offer and the advantages of a tag: just being generally sexy. I think the end result has achieved that (i need to fix the buttons however - can you please make that thing I requested soon? )

 

Graphics will always be purchased, they help businesses look more appealing and professional. Text signatures look more appealing on a forum for business and advertising purpose.

 

I don't even know why you say 'how long left?' It's not dying out and if someones going to buy a graphic from a premade lightroom then so be it.
