    ________________________________

Typically, carrot cake is one of those ''love it or hate it'' types of food.
I am, however, quite convinced that having understood and utilized this thread,
you will have both productive and delicious results, regardless of whether carrot cake is usually something you find endearing or not!

    ________________________________

    Cake Ingredients!
    • 12 oz caster sugar
    • 4 eggs (beaten)
    • 8 fluid oz cooking oil
    • 12 oz plain flour
    • 2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1.5 teaspoons cinnamon
    • 1.5 teaspoons mixed spice
    • 12 oz grated carrot

While the above ingredients are all entirely necessary to yield sensationally fluffy and wonderful cake, the cake is most certainly incomplete without the icing!
    ________________________________

    Icing Ingredients!
    • 12 oz icing sugar
    • Philidelphia cheese (spread)
    • 2 oz butter (block butter)
    • A few drops of vanilla essence

Hopefully you've raided your cupbroad, retrieved said items and are ready to begin the actual cooking!

Use the following method precisely. Deviations from it will result in less riveting results.
    ________________________________

    Method!

1.) Heat the oven to 190 C or gas mark 5.

2.) Grease the baking tin. (I use a tin which is 23x 32cm and 5cm deep).

3.) Stand the tin on the grease proof paper, and score around the bottom with a pencil. Cut this out and line the bottom of the tin.

4.) Sieve all of the dry ingredients for the cake together to ensure that they are mixed with the flour. (The dry ingredients are, namely, bicarbonate of soda, salt and spices).

5.) Mix the ingredients together in the following given order:
    1. Sugar
    2. Eggs
    3. Oil
    4. Dry ingredients

I wouldn't worry, the mixture is intended to be rather sloppy.

6.) Pour into the aforementioned tin and shake slightly to ensure it is evenly spread.

7.) Cook in the oven for 45 minutes if you are using my depth of tin. (Put a knife into the middle, and if it comes out clean, the cake is cooked.)

8.) Leave to cool for at least 15 minutes before turning the cake out onto a wire rack.

9.) Make the icing whilst the cake is cooling and put it in the fridge temporarily to ensure that it firms. (To make the icing, simply stir the ingredients together). When the cake is suitably cool, simply spread the icing over the top. If you enjoy floral frivolities, feel free to twirl the icing on top of the cake.
    ________________________________

I know this is somewhat long, and if you have only read it (or part of it), I cannot express how excellent these cakes are, and so strongly advise you to make one on a miserable day.

Additionally, the cakes are good for holidays and whatnot.

Finally, I'd like to apologize as regards the measurements and terminology used. I am English, and so see no reason to use American (or any other) measurements and terms. If you do not use the same measurements, I'm sure you'll be able to find the appropriate conversions on the Internet. I'd also like to point out that the image at the top was taken from Google, as my camera is in an unfortunate state, but the picture shows how the carrot cake should appear.

Make sure you keep the cake in the fridge. This is fundamentally important.

I wouldn't worry at all. There really is no skilled involved. It is essentially sloshing a selection of ingredients into a bowl, stirring, and then dumping them into a tray and leaving it in an oven for 45 minutes.

It's really simple, yet yields excellent results every time round. :)

Edit: This is the first time I've ever entered this forum properly, and I've only just seen the rules, which forbid recipes. I don't see why. They're just another type of guide, explaining how to do something. This is my own recipe so I'm posting it. I won't use it in my application if it isn't desirable, however.

Very nice guide, Too bad you cannot count it towards your application. The strong adjectives you use really make it more appealing to read. Nice job:)

I think the rule of "No Recipe Guides" should only be implied to people whome are applying to become a User Educator, since their so easy to use as 1 of the 5 required guides. But, other than that, they should continue to be allowed, in my opinion.

Other than that, very nice guide Finn! ^_^ I myself, love carrot cake! It's so delicious!!! I'm going to follow this guide and tell you how the ending result is.

    Nice work, 9/10.

Very nice guide, 9/10 for me.

I'll score it 10/10 when you fix some mistakes you made. Here are a few that I have caught.

    And

I believe you need to take step 4 out, as in the ingredients list it says we need grated carrots already.

Anyways fabulous guide I will definitely use the recipe in the near future.

Thank-you very much for reading it so thoroughly. I have corrected those errors, although I must stress that the first error was merely a typo. ;)

If I were to not include the carrots, would the cake still taste good/be a good cake? I DESPISE carrots, but cake is good.

Good guide, explains well, but can you use like strawberries, or other fruits/veges instead?

    Good guide. 10/10.

Yeah. Perhaps you should lay off the pompous asshole approach, as it's really a useless approach when dealing with an even more pompous asshole.

I don't care if you live in New York, I don't care if you've eaten guinea pig, and I certainly don't care if you hate cream cheese in frosting or sushi.

In this recipe, it works extremely well. Additionally, you might think my recipe resembles something that will produce something typical of a ''3rd grade birthday party snack'', but I assure you, it does not, and I'd like to point out that your attempt at critique and English itself was similar to that of a 3rd grader.

    Off you pop.

Actually Ben, I wouldn't worry about carrots. The first time I ever ate carrots, I thought ''what the Hell? Carrots in cake? No way. Vile.''

I was pleasantly shocked. You probably wouldn't think it contained carrot if you didn't know, but it is fundamental to the recipe.

OMG I'd totally make one, I love those cakes.

You devil Finn, you're setting a bad example

Using cheese spread sounds odd, does it just make the icing creamy or can you taste it?

In my experience, adding your preferred type of nut (diced and not salted!) either on top of the cake or within works nicely too.
