Site has gone way south as of recent

As a member of this community for over a decade, I came back and made a post and was tagged with a do not trade. I have made valid efforts to prove that this is my legitimate account, but they think because of an IP change it is not my account. Pretty poor way to treat members of community that has been a member longer than any mod commenting on my situation and I get the response "No you must go through the process like everybody else." I do not claim I am someone who needs special treatment but I am certain your process is broken and most mods are now extremely lazy I miss the good mods but I guess they have moved on. The forum is now moderated by lack luster mods at best.

 

I understand how it could be frustrating being treated this way if you are in fact who you say you are.

At the same time you do have to understand that it's not uncommon for accounts to be hacked on the internet. You have been inactive for 9 years so I can see why it's suspicious.

There are multiple ways of verifying your identity. Seeing as how you went inactive before SVU and 2FA phone numbers were an option your best bet would be to verify your email address used to create your account, or provide an ID to admins.

 

@Lean, I can very easily verify my e-mail they won't accept that. I also made posts before going inactive providing a second e-mail I could use to verify. They want a personal ID which I feel very uncomfortable giving over the internet. I was unjustly tagged. Let me put this in perspective a little, I take breaks from runescape ALL the time I imagine all people do. Well when you take a few years off and log back in on runescape from a different IP do you get insta banned??? No you provide the proper credentials and are granted access to your account. The IP does not match is very lazy way to ban people and very intrusive to be frank.

 

I agree it is intrusive to provide ID, last I knew you could recover your account as long as you had access to previous emails that were used on the account. Were you a donor? You could probably verify the payment method used.

I was told "Where have you lived in the past? Is your email your real name? If so, please provide an id. "... I was never a donor, but I told them if they look at one my first post some great pures I can even verify a 2nd e-mail but still not suffice they are hell bent on getting my ID and it is worrisome that this is their method. My bank account if I do not log into for 10 years will not ask for my personal ID if I provide my correct password and pin. I am confident when I say they need to re evaluate methods that have been put in place at sythe.

 

It’s hard for me to disagree with you.

I understand why you’re being asked, however it’s incredibly intrusive. Why should you trust this person with your ID?

I think there should be better protocols in place other than someone’s identification.

I would probably never give some person on the internet my identification.

 

Yes you've been a long time member however you went inactive for 9 years.

We have our procedures and you have to go through the process like everybody else. If you do not, then you'd be receiving special treatment.

If this statement were true, we'd give you access to the account without asking further. However, since we had a database leak many years ago, we'd like to actually take the time to verify the original owners of accounts, especially old accounts. This is the opposite of being lazy.

Emails can also be hacked so therefore we can not use that as a valid form of identification especially if your home IP is different than when you were previously on the account.

You are free to censor out any information irrelevant to what we need for identification.

What Sun had asked you below,

meaning all we need from you is a name match (Which we already have if your email contains it) You can block out all other information such as your address or picture.

Few questions, have you ever logged into this site from a different IP? Did you have to provide ID if you did? Was your account banned when you logged in from the different IP? I'm fairly confident none of that happened to you, so therefore I am receiving negative special treatment. I am having to go through hoops to verify my account because your database was leaked. It's really a shame that Sythe is the best platform for the matters of runescape skilling or I would not be so upset. It's even more upsetting that moderators can deprive the platform from anyone at any time and you must cohere to their very will. Since you responded to my rant instead of responding to my recovery question that was posted before this rant I will post the same question. Can I just make a new account with this IP or is this IP now no good?

 

This often happens in cases when accounts have had x amount of inactive years and come back/were reported for suspicious sporadic activity; then a moderator will look into your account and decide whether you need to go through a recovery or not.

I would like to know what your threshold is for "X amount of years" I really hope this same crap happens to every mod that has been involved in my case so you have a little perspective. Your system is broke, and if it takes me voiding out my legitimate account that I have owned long before you ever heard of sythe because I do not want to share my personal ID with strangers on the internet than so be it.

 

I had to recover my account after being inactive from 2013-2017.

Quite honestly, even though I was on your side your response and hostility is a bit off putting. Which further means to me that the staff are justified in asking for additional information.

If all they need is a name match, provide them what they’re asking for and black out all the other information.
