Photoshop CS4 Tutorial For Beginners/Noobs - Metroid Prime

Hey there class, today we'll be learning how to make the following signature:

I will be using Photoshop CS4 for this tutorial.

    Directions
    1. Start up a new document that is whatever size you wish, I used 400x125.
The background color doesn't matter, we're going to change it anyways.
Set your colors to default by pressing D. Then, go to Filter > Render >
    Clouds
. You should come up with this nice cloudy effect similar to mine.

    2. Take out some abstract brushes, I won't teach you how to do it here
because I don't have the time, try searching google, make a new layer,
and brush both sides with different abstract brushes ONCE. Make sure
the main color is black. Leave the middle open, that's where you're going to
add your render. Set this layer as Normal at 100%. You should
come up with something like this:

    3. Create a new layer, and repeat the step 2, using different abstract
brushes, and having your main color as white. Set this layer as
Overlay at 100%. Then, create another new layer, and repeat
step 2 but with black as your main color, and set it as Hard Light at
    100%.

    After white brushes:
After next set of black brushes:

    4. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast. For
these settings, put Brightness as -51, and put Contract as 42.
Adjust to your likings, if you must. Leave this layer as Normal at
100%. This is a slight difference.

    5. Create a new layer. Bring your render onto your canvas by opening it in
Photoshop, then copy/pasting it. Do not resize it yet! Keep on pasting it and
placing it in different areas, and when you are satisfied, merge all of those
layers down by right clicking the top layer of the render, and click Merge
    Down
. Only merge to the original render first. Do not merge with the
    brushes or background!!!

    6. Now that you did that, go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur and for the
settings, put at Angle at 45 degrees, and Distance at 51 pixels.
Now, you have color, but there are some random lines you don't want in the
blur? Mhmm, well, now go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the
Radius to 1 pixel. Set this layer as Overlay at 100%.

    7. Paste your render in again and resize it to your liking. Remember that
space in between the brushes? That's where your render will go!

    8. Create a new layer. Go to Image > Apply Image... and then click
OK. Now take out the Blur tool, it looks like a water droplet, and blur the
background with a soft brush. Also, blur the sides of the render
slightly to give it some blend. Leave this layer as Normal at
    100%.

    9. Create a new layer. Go to Image > Apply Image... and then click
OK. Take out the Dodge tool this time, it is right under the Blur tool, and it
looks like a Sphere on a stick. Go over the entire image with this tool and set
it on Overlay at around 60% to 65%. This is used to get that
    brighter glow.

    10. Now add some text, preferably near the focal(main interest of the
signature, usually the render), and make that blend with a nice color from
the render or set it on Overlay.

Add a border by making a new layer, go to Select > All or press
CTRL + A, and then press D to reset your colors(so you get a
black border). Go to Edit > Stroke... and for the Width, do 1
px, and for the Location, do Inside.

You should now have something similar to this:

I tried it, had a few problems with it. The motion blur seemed to cover up the abstract brush strokes and all it left was...blur. lol. That may have been my mistake, but I put that layer underneath the abstract and it still turned out fairly nice. =)

    Hey dude very nice guide!
I just recently made a website and I used your guide in my GFX guide section.
I gave credits to you, although if you don't want it on my site or you want to post it yourself or something then just go to this link Wiked Gaming and reply telling me you want it off.

    Thanks,
    WiKeD

Well this was a good tutorial. This was the first time ever making a signature. Here is my outcome. I thought it was half decent. Let me know what you think. And remember it is my FIRST EVER.

Fairly decent tutorial but the 'Hey there class,' bit was cheap, and sounded stupid.
