Gay 'Marriage' vs 'Civil Union'

Marriage does originate from religion, and every religion acknowledges marriage as a sacred bond. To be honest, the majority of religions including Christianity, Catholicism, and Jewdism only consider marriage a bond between 'husband' and 'wife'. *Even Islamic followers believe homosexuality is a sin. Instead of changing the definition of the word.. Defined in multiple religions to be between a 'husband' and 'wife'. Why don't we change the definition of 'Civil Union' to allow the users to receive the same benefits that they would if 'married'? *That way both parties are happy. Plus South Park says you can only change the definition of fag... LOL.*
