It's pretty hard to say really. When the trade is completed I dont actively monitor the traders after that. Your best bet to determine if someone is a trustworthy seller is to look at a couple of things:

    - Look at their vouches. What are the kind of trades they have done? Did he always go first or did the other party go first sometime as well (as in has he ever been trusted with money)?

    - Look at the donation amount. While its not directly connected to trustworthyness this does get included in the big picture. So for example if someone has a decent amount of vouches and has donated a decent amount then the donation gives him a little edge in regards to trustworthyness. Important to note that people with a very low amount of vouches and a high donated amount are not trustworthy (doesnt mean they will all scam you though just that you should not trust them with large amounts, threat them similar as to how you would threat such a person without the donated amount).

    - Look at their activity. When did they join, has the person been active for some time or has he just returned from a 2 year break, miniranks, etc. All not directly connected to trustworthyness but again does get included in the big picture.

Buyacc summed it up nicely. You can mitigate risk by using someone who has a long history of successful trades. Many people spend years building a reputation so that they can live off their commissions, and they're not about to throw it all away for one trade. That being said, you should always use caution. Paying premium for peace of mind is always worth the cost.

Simply put: if you feel you need a middleman for an account trade, you shouldn't be buying the account. You're effectively going first anyways since the original owner can recover the account at any time. The middleman can only ensure a safe exchange of goods, nothing after. So if you can't trust them not to scam you when you go to buy the account, just don't buy it lol

Do you mean RS accounts or RS gold? RS gold can usually be bought without a problem, but with account sellers, the reputation and trust of the seller is extremely important. There are very few people like me who have a great amount trust in the account market and no intention of recovering accounts.

Eh, for some reason I disagree with the things said regarding miniranks, donation amounts and post count. I get what he says in terms of 'big picture', but still, there's nothing like one's gut feeling and intuition.

If I were you, I would ONLY focus 100% on vouches and the person's character.
