Addiction to drugs

I would like to know your opinion on this subject.

People sometimes say that addiction is uncontrollable. Some say its just mental and can easily be controlled. I know its a craving of your mind, but you can fight it.

I hear smokers say that cigarettes and marijuana are not addicting, but i cant really trust them seeing as they are potheads and such.

The others say that it is addicting and yet they also say that they haven't tried it and they couldn't know from personal experience.

What do you think?

Of course, like all pleasant things, it can be addictive if you depend upon it for happiness. If it's the only thing in your life that you enjoy, and you abruptly stop, you'll likely be quite miserable.

Cigarettes ARE addictive. Several people in my family have suffered from this. Sure, some people say it's just a craving of the mind, yet this craving is extremely powerful, and until you've experienced/understood it, you're not really in a position to dismiss it.

 

it depends completely on the person... i dont smoke pot, however i have, i have never had a craving for it tho.

I smoke cigarettes pretty often, but in moderation.
I have never had a craving from these either, however i have easily smoken enough to be addicted.
I smoked an entire pack in a day, then gone for the next 3 months without having one, then i have had 5 a day for 2 weeks, then gone without for another 3 months, i just have them when i want, not when i need them.

I have a pack in my room at the moment with 19 left, i have 2 a day when im coming down off my dexamphetamine to take the edge off the aggression i get. and i find this to be the best solution for value for money.

Edit: re: addictiveness of drugs... same goes for meth for me, i have had 5 points in a day, then nothing for months. at the moment i have about 2 points of ice every 6 months or so whenever i feel like it.

 

Well in my opinion Marijuana isn't that addicting people don't just use it on and on each second. But cigarettes they could be addicting my brother I hate him he smokes and I tell him its bad and he smokes a lot in one day so tell me is that addicting like ten cigarettes at most.

 

I don't really think I have many or any addictions. Sure I can say I was addicted to runescape but I quit just like most other poeple do and I may have felt like I was going to be bored for the rest of my life but I'm not. I think to conquer most addictions you need to know that you can live without it. If you start eating a bag of potato chips you will probably have that addicted feeling and want to keep eating until you are full. You can also say well just 1 more about 80 times until the bag is empty or you can say no I've had enough, and then say its not going to kill me if I save them for later. I think that most addictions are like that. You need to realise that there are other things to do in life other than play certain games, smoke whatever, or do whatever it is that you are addicted to.
On another side note I would have to say not all addictions are bad. I am personally addicted to water. I can get enough of it but still I really crave it all the time and for good reason. Sure it is required for my survival and I really can't live without it but to be quite honest if I didn't just drink pure water I think I would feel pretty odd. To me it would be like somethings missing but I don't know it thats how everyone else feels.

 

mj is too addicting! as is anything that makes you something you arent... its just plain fun to be out of the norm... thast what makes you want it more...

 

I think for the most part people are saying that weed isn't addicting since you don't necessarily crave it like you would say crave cigarette or crave to do some other drugs. With marijuana you enjoy it but you could probably put it down without any feeling of not being able to live without it. That's what most people who are addicted to stuff say, that they need it but most people I know that smoke weed just smoke like a few times a month. They don't feel deprived when they don't smoke 20 joints every day, week, or month for that matter. It's just simply doesn't have an extremely addictive. That's all.

Cigs are very addicting, with Weed it depends. Some people can just up and quit smoking it easily, but then iv seen other people who really cant. Weed is more of a mental addiction, and it depends on the person if u ask me.

 

Drugs have a substance that makes your mind addicted to them. So when you withdrew from the substance your mind craves more.

Per say it is a mental addiction, but it is not to be messed with. It is in fact what you may call "addicting" but with mental strength you can easily refuse it.

If you are thinking of starting just to quit then don't even start. Unless you can take 5 things you like the most, and need the most, and can quit them.

It does depend on the person...i can say from experience that marajauana is addicting...i have not smoked in arround a month and a half...but i am craving it right now...not really craving. this is where it gets complicated...you want to do it because it gives you a state of happyness and like a cloud 9 effect. so your brain wants that feeling again so you keep doing it.

I smoke ciggrets tried to quit = fucking hard so i quit quitting

I smoked that grass, smoked weed every day for about 3 months and smoked quite a bit before that, quitting = Not hard at all, it got to lame to be honest, all my friends smoke once in a while, or every weekend/day and i don't even want to smoke with them.

 

Im 15 years old and i've been smoking like 3-4 years and i have tried to quit but i didn't succeed =( smoking is a just bad happit to me and no-one even cares if i smoke =D im not a bad person cuz i smoke and so on. I don't have a good reason to quit (i know that i think stupidly :) cuz i don't realy be afraid of cancer etc :EEE

 

All drugs are addicting, some more so than others, I know this from personal experience. I don't consider ciggerettes drugs just cause they are the least addicting. I personally know that marijuana IS addicting but it could be worse.... I look at some of my friends and see how addicted they are to meth or coke or sumtin and I'm glad I haven't done drugs like that cuz they are so addicting sometimes they end up on the streets or sh*t like that...but ALL drugs ARE addicting...

 

first of all ive done nearly every drug going, they are not addictive, its just when your hanging round with the sort that does it or puts them under your nose ur like yeee i wana fit in...drugs arnt as bad as ppl make out. they call it addictive because ur not use to not doing them after a while , its like a gf....when u spplit up from a year relationship but u have no feeling for her....but u still misss how u was ....its like smoking and drugs. your not used to not having it for a period of time.

 

Well it depends if the person is strong in he mind and if he is ready to fithg becouse if not, just wasting your time.

 

drugs make u think that ur weak and u want more. its u thinking 'wow i wana get so wreckeddd' making u want the same buzz...but every time u do it u need more n more to get the same buzz cuz ur body gets emune. i done weed 4 10 months flat out everyday and then quit cuz it got boring...and i mena didnt even cut down... just quit lol

 

Marijuana is not addictive, i am pretty sure about it.
Nicotine makes addiction to cigarretes that contains it.

Smoking = bad for you, not cool.

 

Smoking cigarettes IS addictive,i never seen someone who have just smoked like 2 cigarettes or 3 then he didn't come back to it,and if they tell you it's not then they are lying.
