Alright... Making a beam of light in Photoshop... for the assignment...

Make a new 250 by 450 document, and fill it with a Black + Blue gradient, like so.

Now with a large, white soft brush (175px), make a dot in the lower center of the picture, like so:

Now lets go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance, when the first box comes up, set the mode to COLOR, when the second comes up, set it to the following settings, and make sure HIGHLIGHTS is checked.
(note: I put my white brush on a new layer, you don't have to.

Okay now make a new layer (Still under the adjustments layer), and with a small (approx 35/40px) SOFT, WHITE brush, make a straight line going from the top of your image to the centre of the ball. (Hold SHIFT to make sure it's straight).

Okay now with the SMUDGE tool, select a really rough brush (like PICTURE 5), and start to smudge the BALL layer up as if it's flying through the air, like so.

Now go to Windows > Brushes > And set it to:

Now UNDER the straight light beam, play around with the brushes until you get something what you like.

Hope you learned something from this... and it can be used in LOADS of different things and looks great in abstracts.

Holy frick, that actually looks really sick. It's actually an easy-to-follow guide. ^_^ Good work, 9/10. You could explain, what the effects you use do though if you wanted to add-on to the guide a little more.

Any other member would get banned for this, even though you had done it yourself, you have still ripped it off the site. Just because you're UE doesn't mean you should get away with it.
