Should I return my fishing rod?

I am new at this fishing game and I bought a Okuma Tundra Spinning Fishing Rod Combo on Amazon for $26.00. Unfortunately, this rod is kind of heavy. I should've thought twice before buying but everyone has buyer's remorse right?

Well anyways, I looked up on youtube and noticed that everyone was using a extremely light weight fishing rod and it looked very thin. My fishing rod is medium to heavy action and I think its a bait stick but its great for catfish.

If it is too heavy for you to be comfortable fishing with, then ofc return it.

I'm fishing it at a lake but the rod itself was made for surf fishing and etc.

I'm not baiting or anything, i'm using lures such as the Rebel Pop-R or the banjo lure.

If you're going to be mostly fishing in lakes casually, I'd recommend you get something called an 'ugly stick'. They're light weight, usually cheap and are damn near unbreakable. I had mine for 15 years before I got a new one.

The fishing rod that I ordered, "Okuma Tundra " is mainly used for bait fishing where you just leave your rod and wait for a bite?

You can do that with any rod. A hook with a worm/shiner/live bait on it, a bobber and you're all set. You just wait until the bobber starts dipping under the water and you have a bite.

Should I return my fishing rod?

i've been fishing for over 20 years, from rivers, ponds, to lakes, and even some deep sea fishing, i've only owned rods from walmart, i mean if you are catching nothing bigger then some catfish or large mouthbass all you really need is a small little rod.

i personally prefer the heavier rods for my area tho, as i tend to snag turtles/gators quite often.

But if I want to lure instead where I have to repeatedly cast into the water and reel it in, will this rod be exceptional if i'm okay with a heavy rod?

I haven't caught any fish yet with the live bait and bobber rig. As of now, I'm trying out lures that I bought at walmart to use at a lake. I'm trying to find out whether its okay to use this rod esp. if its heavy for casting over and over again and reeling in the lure if no bites. I know this rod is great for heavy fishes though.. its meant for surf fishing or pier.

i mean if you gut noodle arms or something, get a lighter one, i normal do lures, live bait, and chum.

rod weight doesn't affect casting/fishing, just designed to not break. which means you have a do it all rod.

Does this mean that my rod will be able to catch bass if I used a top water lure rig?

I found that the ugly stik models are meant for top water lures but then again, I have to factor in the reel + fishing wire.

Even if you have a reel on it, you can work it like a good ole cane pole.

Should I return my fishing rod?

I think that my Rod medium-heavy action. I could probably catch striper bass with these rod and catfish.

I found this description on walmart " This Okuma Tundra Spinning Combo is ideal for tossing bait into the water down at the ocean, lake, river or pond.".

I'm not a huge fan of tossing bait into the water and waiting for it. I'm more of those kind of people who want to lure fishes, catch them and release it. I might have better chances in getting a bite with lures than using bait.

Honestly if your fishing a lake and you just started fishing, get an ugly stick (rod) and head down to a local Gander Mountain or whatever outdoors sporting supply store is closest to you and ask them about reels. Find what you like the best and what works with what your doing. I'm saying get an ugly stick because those will not snap from any fish in a lake.

yeah im returning my rod this week and already got an immediete refund of $29.00 for my okuma tundra and switching it to a Ugly Stik Lite model.

Which do you prefer? Ugly Stik Lite or Ugly Stik ?

I read that the Ugly Stik Lite are more sensitive and lighter than the regular Ugly stik since I'll be casting and reeling in my lure 5+ hours straight if not more.

I have just an original ugly stick due to the fact I fish walleye in one of our 13,000 lakes it is up here in MN.

But on a serious note I know the lite version is liter, and if your someone who will just cast then i would definitely just go for a lite version. But do make sure your comfortable with your reel, or you will end up frustrated.

For wall-eye, do you just drop bait and wait for a hook?

depends, Trolling or jigging usually work best. Best is jigging though.

But if your at the dock then you definitely use a bobber, i recently just bought one with a glowing tip so it's easier to see.
