[Paypal] Getting scammed as a buyer? Help?

Long story short I sent a guy $30 for 150m after seeing his ad on the listofcraig. I figured it's only $30 so it's not much of a risk.

After 20 hours of waiting for him to deliver I decided to dispute it, and since then it has elevated to a claim. (note: he has not contacted me or posted anything in the paypal claim since the dispute was filed)

So I guess bottom line: Will I get my money back? What can I do to ensure I get my money back?

Feel free to move this thread if it's in the wrong location.

    Thanks for helpful posts.

Open a dispute on PayPal or ring them. They will help you from there.

You should get your money back. I mean, damn, sometimes PayPal gives the money back to the buyer even when the seller did deliver the item. Quite simply the problem of buying virtual items over the internet.

I called paypal, they only refunded me $15...

With that $15 I did a people search and got his moms phone number. I plan on calling her and letting her know that her son is an online scammer. :)

    Will post how it goes.

I've never heard of PayPal only splitting the money in the dispute...I thought they had to give you all or nothing? Do you have the email or anything that says this?

I called paypal and the dispute is still going, the woman I talked to just gave me $15 apparently because she said there is a good likelyhood that I won't win the dispute and she believes that I did in fact get scammed :/ Here's the subject of the $15 dollar transfer from paypal.

    "Subject:

Good to hear you partially received it back, but I hope you changed your buying attitude. 'It's not much so it's not a big risk' is just, ehh wrong... 30$ for 150M sounds too good to be true, and so it is. You could've gotten about 80M for it here on the forums from a trusted gold seller and now you're left withing nothing but a half refund.

$30 for 150M? Holy shit. That's like 20 cents a mil lol, no way it was legitimate, buying billions on here gives the lowest price at .37, 150M will typically cost you anything from 45 cents upwards here. And yeah Craigslist is a cesspit. Good to say you got at least half back, buy on Sythe from a reputable business like R2Pleasant or YoHoJo in future, it costs almost 3x that but you get what you pay for.

I bought a christmas cracker for $500 usd off craigslist and that is NO JOKE.
You can even check r2pleasants vouchs for the 2.7B I sold him from that cracker. ;)

I take risks on craigslist but I have profited more than once. I just didn't think this one through all the way I guess.

I always heard about sellers losing their money by disputes so I thought I (being the buyer) would be safe and almost guaranteed to get my money back.

Another update: I called paypal again and they said I should dispute it with my bank, and the dispute will be flipped on him. Anyone ever done this?

If you used a creditcard and call your bank, they'll reverse the payment. Paypal will almost always side with you in that case, since they don't want to lose money.
